Mahindra Scorpio N is currently one of the most popular SUVs in the segment. It was launched in the market few months ago and the deliveries have also started. The Scorpio N is available in both petrol and diesel engine options and there is a long waiting period on the SUV. Ever since its launch, we have seen several review and ownership reviews of the new Scorpio N. We also have couple of off-road videos available on the internet. Here we have a video where a diesel Mahindra Scorpio N is seen competing with a petrol version in a drag race.
The video has been uploaded by Yagya Sharma on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger talks to the owners of both petrol and diesel Scorpio N SUVs to know their opinion. Both of them felt that the diesel would have an upperhand because of higher torque. On paper however, Scorpio N petrol generates more power. It generates 200 Ps and upto 380 Nm of peak torque. The petrol version seen here is a manual variant while the diesel version is an automatic. The diesel version of Scorpio N generates 175 Ps and 400 Nm of peak torque.

Both the SUVs were lined up for the race on a closed road. Vlogger was sitting in the diesel automatic variant and before starting the race, vlogger asks both the drivers to turn off the AC and traction control. In the diesel version, there are drive modes and the Zoom mode was engaged for maximum performance. First round started and the diesel Scorpio N simply took off the start line. His friend and the owner of the petrol version was unable to time the launch and he was left behind. At the end of the first round, the vlogger mentions that he took off the line before the race started.
For the second round, settings remained same and they timed the launch at the same time. Both the SUVs got a good launch but, the petrol Scorpio N was once again left behind. Vlogger mentioned that the owner of the petrol Scorpio N is not used to such races and that may be the reason why he is struggling. For the next round, both the SUV were lined up however the driver had changed. Vlogger was driving the diesel automatic while his other friend was driving the petrol manual SUV. The race started and surprisingly, the petrol Scorpio N was keeping up with the diesel version. Both SUVs were right next to each other for some time and after the petrol version got into third gear, it simply took the lead and maintained it.
At the end of the race, vlogger came to a conclusion that if the manual version has a bit of lag which makes it difficult to launch. If it was the automatic version, then diesel Scorpio N might not have had a chance. If the petrol manual SUV had a longer track in hand, it would have left diesel version behind. The low-end torque and the automatic gearbox is what helped the diesel version win this race.
