Mahindra Scorpio N vs New Thar in a drag race [Video]

Mahindra has been launching one SUV each year for the last three years. In 2020, they launched the new generation Thar and after that, they launched XUV700 and this year it was the all-new Scorpio N. Deliveries for the all-new Scorpio N has started and videos related to the same has started surfacing online. Even before the deliveries for the Scorpio N had started, we saw drag race videos of the new Mahindra SUV. Here we have one such video where a Mahindra Scorpio N diesel automatic 4×4 SUV is competing against a Mahindra Thar diesel in a drag race.

The video has been uploaded by Rajni Chaudhary on her YouTube channel. In this video the vlogger talks about the plan for the video. Previously she did a drag race with her Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra Scorpio N. Surprisingly, Mahindra Scorpio N won the race and she wanted to see if Mahindra Scorpio N can compete with Thar. Both the SUVs were being driven by her friends.

Both the SUVs were lined up at the start line and the drivers start racing. They do not mention, if they had switched off the AC and traction control in both the SUVs. The race starts and surprisingly, Mahindra Thar SUV was in the lead. It felt like Mahindra Scorpio N might overtake it from the other lane any second but, it did not. Mahindra Thar maintained the lead throughout the race and won the first round.

For the second round, both the SUVs were lined up for the race. This time, the Scorpio N driver asks Thar driver to engage 4H so that, the power is sent to all for wheels. We should tell you that, this is not the right practice. 4×4 gear ratios are not meant for road usage. These are used only for off-road purposes. engaging 4×4 on the tarmac can damage the gearbox when driven at high speeds. Both SUVs engage 4×4 and the notification light can be seen on the instrument cluster of Thar. Both SUVs start racing and within seconds after starting, Mahindra Thar once again takes the lead and maintains it till the end. The all-new Scorpio N could not overtake Thar at any point.

The race was being done on an empty road to avoid any accidents. Mahindra Thar was announced as the winner of the race and both the vlogger and Scorpio N driver were surprised with the result. On paper, Mahindra Scorpio N is much more powerful. Both Mahindra Scorpio N and Thar are powered by the same petrol and diesel engine but, they are tuned differently in both the SUVs. Thar diesel automatic generates 130 Bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The Scorpio N on the other hand generates 172 Bhp and 400 Nm fof peak torque. The main difference comes with the weight. Scorpio N has a kerb weight of around 2,500 kg and Thar is 1,750 kgs. This gives Thar the weight advantage and although it generates less power, it has better power to weight ratio which helped in winning the drag race.
