Mahindra had recently launched a much needed upper mid trim model to the Scorpio lineup. Called the S9, it has been priced at Rs. 13.99 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi. The S9 trim has been introduced to fill the gap between the S7 and S11 trims, which have been on sale since long.
The S9 is cheaper than the top of the line S11 by a margin of Rs. 1.15 lakhs. It, however, does not miss on the necessary equipment like automatic climate control and touch infotainment system. Let’s now know more in detail about the new variant through this video.
The new Scorpio S9 does not comes with any design overhaul on the outside. The badge on the rear will tell you that it’s the S9 variant. Also, the car in the video is the 7 seater S9 variant and not the 8 seater one. Another teller that this is not the top end Scorpio variant is the lack of alloy wheels.
It, however gets Static-bending Projector Headlamps, LED Light Guides and wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators, telling that this is not a base variant too. There are disc brake at front wheels and drum brakes at rear wheels of the Scorpio S9. Another feature worth missing is the hydraulic assisted bonnet lid, present on this variant.
The S9 variant does not come with a reverse parking camera though it has a 5.9 inch infotainment system on board. Only parking sensors are available at your service during maneuvering through tight corners. Also, the infotainment system still does not support Apple car play or Android auto. Other interior elements include steering mounted controls, automatic climate control, height adjustable seat and rake (height) adjust steering wheel. Rear seat gets AC vents along with a 12 V charging point. The rear glass also has wiper/washer/defogger which will help during winters.
The Scorpio S9 is powered by the familiar 2.2 liter-4 cylinder, mHawk turbocharged engine that produces 140 Bhp of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. Automatic gearbox option is not available on the S9 trim. Also, the Scorpio S9 is rear wheel drive only with 4wd not available even as an option. Also, the micro hybrid system is present on this variant.
