Mahindra has released a brand new SUV for the facelifted Scorpio SUV, which was launched in India a few months ago. The facelifted version of the Scorpio has the SUV’s most powerful engine ever. The TVC continues with the ‘Nothing Else Will Do’ tagline that has been associated with the Scorpio for over a decade now. This tagline emphasises the cult appeal of this rugged SUV. In many parts of India, an SUV is synonymous with the Mahindra Scorpio, whose lines and design language make it instantly recognizable.
The latest version of the Mahindra Scorpio gets a retuned 2.2-litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine. Outputs have increased to 140 Bhp-320 Nm from 120 Bhp-280 Nm. The engine also gets the 120 Bhp-280 Nm state of tune for specific variants. The entry level variant of the Scorpio – the S3 trim – continues to be available with a lower powered 2.5-litre M2DICR turbocharged diesel engine whose outputs are 75 Bhp-200 Nm.
While the more powerful engine gets a 6-speed manual gearbox to drive its rear wheels, the less powerful motor gets a 5-speed manual. A rear-wheel drive layout is standard across Scorpio variants with the top-end trim getting a four-wheel drive option. The SUV is available in six trims: S3, S5, S7-120, S7-140, S11 and S11 4WD. Through the facelift, Mahindra has given the Scorpio revised front end styling with a grille, featuring squarish slats, reminiscent of the one found on the Jeep Compass.
The styling at the rear has also changed. On the sides, the alloy wheel design is new, and overall, the Scorpio looks classier than before, all thanks to the facelift. On the inside, more features have been added while the SUV’s upholstery and colour schemes get a once over. Most variants of the Scorpio now gets twin airbags and ABS as standard safety features. An all-new Scorpio is under development that will be launched after 2020. Until then, the facelifted model will carry on unchanged. Prices start from Rs. 10.08 lakhs.
