Mahindra Scorpio SUV’s S4+ variant prices released

Mahindra has released prices for its latest Scorpio SUV S4+ variant. The S4+ RWD variant is priced at 9. lakh rupees while the 4WD variant is pegged at 10.83 lakh rupees. Both prices reflect ex-showroom Delhi figures. Available in both rear wheel drive and four wheel drive guises, the S4+ variant brings in safety kit to the equation. Thus far, the Scorpio’s entry level four wheel drive variant has never been sold with airbags and ABS features, even as optional equipment.

By making these features available, the automaker has made India’s best selling ladder frame equipped SUV more attractive than ever before for buyers on a budget, but seeking the crucial go-anywhere ability that a  4WD function brings to the equation. The Scorpio’s fully loaded S10 variant is yet to made available with a 4WD layout. Mahindra has gone slow on introducing the 4WD variants given the high demand for the facelifted Scorpio.

In the next few weeks, expect even the S10 variant to get a 4WD function. The four wheel drive system, built by Borg Warner and equipped with a shift-on-the-fly ability is offered only on the Scorpio powered by the 2.2 liter mHawk turbo diesel (120 Bhp-280 Nm) motor. The entry level, 2.5 liter M2DiCR motor with 75 Bhp-200 Nm is meant for semi-urban and cab markets and is available only in rear wheel drive guise.

Mahindra had a tough 2014 in terms of sales numbers, with the automaker registering a big dip in year on year figures. 2015 promises to be the year when the Indian automaker plans to bounce back in a big way with a slew of launches. Apart from creating all-new segments with vehicles such as the S101 Micro SUV and the U301 Bolero ladder frame compact SUV, Mahindra will facelift the XUV500, introduce a diesel hybrid variant and the automated manual transmission on thw Quanto.
