Mahindra Scorpio and Thar five-door confirmed
While the exact month or quarter was not revealed, the new Mahindra Scorpio will be launched between January 2022 and December 2022. The arrival of the new Scorpio will be followed by the hybrid version of the XUV700, which will happen within the same time frame as that of the Scorpio.
Mahindra is already said to be working on the five-door version of the Thar, and this was confirmed in the press conference too. The launch of the new five-door Thar will happen anytime between 2025 and 2027.
More electric vehicles coming
And that’s not all. In the recent past, Mahindra has already stated that it is working on bringing a new generation of electric vehicles for the Indian market, and the preparations are in full swing. For these new innings of the EV revolution, Mahindra doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned. The homegrown SUV specialist is preparing to come up with eight new electric vehicles for India. Out of these eight new offerings, four will be electric versions of its existing SUVs while the other four will be all-new offerings with completely different nameplates. All these eight electric vehicles will be launched between 2025 to 2027.
In total, from 2022 to 2027, Mahindra will be launching thirteen new vehicles, which will help it in expanding its already wide footprints in the SUV segments. Mahindra assured that it will bank on its four core nameplates of Bolero, Scorpio, XUV and Thar, and will not part ways with any of these. However, the electric vehicles division of Mahindra is thinking of creating a new sub-brand. It is to be noted that Mahindra has already created a new division called ‘Mahindra Electric’ (ME) for such vehicles.
Mahindra said that the small delay which has happened in its plans is due to the ongoing shortage of semiconductor chips. While this issue is expected to continue in 2022, it will not be as severe as it is right now.
