Mahindra has just launched the Ssangyong Rexton in India in two variants – the RX5 manual transmission variant priced at 17.67 lakh and the RX7 automatic variant that you see here priced at 19.67 lakh rupees.
The Rexton is based on an old Mercedes M-Class design and you can see the similarities. The new Rexton has been freshened up with new projector headlamps and bold grille. The rear gets LED tail lamps. In profile, the Rexton is larger than a Toyota Fortuner. It comes with 16 inch wheels, but gets a huge 252 millimeters of ground clearance!

Ssangyong Rexton vs Toyota Fortuner
The Rexton is powered by a 5-cylinder, 2.7 litre diesel engine that puts out 184 bhp of power and 402 newton meters of torque, with a 5-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. The interiors get beige leather upholstery. The dashboard is rather simple and elegant, with the steering wheel getting plenty of buttons to control audio and shift gears. The middle row seating space is good, but in the last row, the floor is too high to sit comfortably. With the seats folded there’s plenty of boot space.
Overall, the Rexton is great value for money, seems comfortable and is loaded with features. It will give the Toyota Fortuner a run for its money. We’ll get you a detailed road test soon.
