Within a few weeks of its launch, the Mahindra Thar diesel rear-wheel drive version received its first price hike. Mahindra has increased the prices of the LX diesel variant of the rear-wheel drive version of the Thar. Priced at Rs 11.49 lakh, the Mahindra Thar LX diesel rear-wheel drive version is now Rs 50,000 dearer than before, compared to the launch price of Rs 10.99 lakh.
Mahindra launched the Thar rear-wheel drive version in January 2023 in three variants – AX (O) diesel, LX diesel and LX petrol AT. While Mahindra has hiked the price of the LX diesel variant, the prices of AX (O) diesel (Rs 9.99 lakh) and LX petrol AT (Rs 13.49 lakh) continue to be the same as the launch price. All three variants of the Thar RWD are offered with a hard top configuration as standard.
It should be noted that out of the three variants of the Mahindra Thar rear-wheel drive version, the LX diesel is the most popular and in-demand variant. The waiting period for the LX diesel variant has now reached over a year. In comparison to the top-spec diesel manual version of the Thar 4WD, the LX diesel Thar rear-wheel drive costs Rs lakh cheaper. In addition to all the colour options of the Thar 4WD, the new Thar rear-wheel drive is available in Everest White and Blazing Bronze.

The Mahindra Thar rear-wheel drive version is also available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 150 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. The LX petrol variant of the Thar rear-wheel drive version is available solely with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
