Mahindra has just launched a special edition of the Thar CRDe 4X4 on-off road SUV. Priced at Rs. 9.99 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi, the Mahindra Thar 700 represents the last 700 units of the Thar CRDe that Mahindra will produce and sell in India. The price represents a Rs. 40,000 premium over the regular Thar CRDe. The Thar will go out of production shortly and an all-new, second generation model will replace it in April 2020. The Thar 700 has a slew of changes to justify its special edition status, and also make it attractive to buyers who seek the legendary Jeep shape, and the rugged, mechanical purity that the first generation Thar offers in good measure. Bookings are now open at all Mahindra dealerships across India and also online at MahindraSYouV. Here is a video that shows the Thar 700 in action.
The Thar 700 will be available in two colours: Aquamarine Blue and Napoli Black. Meanwhile, here is the full list of changes that the Mahindra Thar 700 will come with,
Stylized 5-spoke alloy wheels
Decals on the side and bonnet
Black finish on the grille
Silver finish on the front bumper
Leatherette upholstery with THAR logo on the front seats
Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
Veejay Ram Nakra, the Chief of Sales and Marketing, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said,
We are delighted to introduce the last 700 units of our iconic off-roader, Thar, in its current avatar. We believe that the enthusiasts will see it as their last chance to own a piece of this Mahindra legacy, as a must-have garage collectible. The Thar is clearly an extension of our 70 years legacy and what brand Mahindra stands for. Over the years, it has successfully shaped the lifestyle vehicle segment while being popular with the off-road tribe.
The Mahindra Thar 700 will retain the 2.5 liter-4 cylinder turbo diesel engine with 105 Bhp-247 Nm outputs, and a 5 speed manual gearbox. The SUV also gets a four wheel drive transfer case with low and high ratios for hard core off roading. The addition of ABS is one feature that makes the Thar 700 much better than the version that has been on sale all along. This life saving safety feature has finally been introduced on the Thar range.
The all-new Mahindra Thar will debut in April 2020. Designed from ground up, the 2nd generation Thar will feature a body-on-ladder chassis that it will share with the new Mahindra Scorpio. The engine will be a 2 liter-4 cylinder unit with 140 Bhp-300 Nm, and will be mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. The new Thar will get ABS and airbags as standard while a factory fitted hard top will be offered as an option.
