Mahindra is working on the all-new version of the Thar and it has been caught testing under heavy camouflage multiple times. Now according to a new report, the current version of the Mahindra Thar will get a special model before the production of the first-generation SUV comes to an end. The current version of the Mahindra Thar has become an iconic SUV and it has been in production since 2010. However, due to stricter norms, the current version of the Thar will be replaced with an all-new model in 2020.
The give a proper send-off to the Mahindra Thar, a special Signature Edition of the vehicle will be launched. It will be a limited production vehicle and only 700 units of the vehicle will be put on sale. Mahindra will offer only two paint schemes with the limited edition Thar – Napoli Black and Aquamarine. The Aquamarine colour will be similar to the dark sky blue colour we get to see on the all-new Marazzo.
As per ACI, the Signature Edition Thar will come with a host of changes that will set it apart from the regular version of the vehicle. It will get all-new five-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels which have were offered with previous-generation Mahindra Scorpio and even Mahindra Marksman, which is an armoured vehicle.
Also, differentiating the exterior from the regular Thar will the number of decals on the vehicle. It will get black decals on the bonnet lid and silver accents on the front bumper. A “Signature Edition” badge will also be placed on the fender of the vehicle. Since Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of the Mahindra Group is an automotive enthusiast, his autograph will be placed on the fender of the vehicle too.
According to the report, the new Thar will be wider and more spacious. Also, it will get front-facing rear seats with leatherette seat covers for a more premium touch. It is not known how the cabin space will be increased. It is quite possible that Mahindra will modify the current body of the vehicle to increase the space but we are not so sure about it. The next-generation Thar that has been testing under a heavy camouflage gets a much wider body than the current-generation Thar.
The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will get standard features like ABS and airbags but since it does not meet the upcoming BNVSAP crash test norms, it will not be on-sale after 1st October 2019. Currently, the Mahindra Thar is available with only one engine option as the manufacturer has discontinued the Direct Injection engine. It currently gets powered by the 2.5-liter engine that is expected to produce either 120 Bhp or 140 Bhp. The Signature Edition is also expected to get a price hike for all the additional features that it will get.
