Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced an Adventure Edition of the popular Thar off roader in India. Only 30 units of the Adventure Edition of the Thar SUV will be built exclusively for the Indian market. The Thar Adventure edition gets a slew of cosmetic embellishments but that is pretty much what the new variant is all about.
Mechanically, the Thar remains unchanged. Meanwhile. here’s a wrap up of what’s new on the Mahindra Thar Adventure Edition,
- Java Brown Paint Scheme that is also seen on the Mahindra Quanto
- Adventure theme body wrap with 2 dimensional map and compass
- Headlamp and tail lamp protectors, and a chaff screen
- Wheel arch extensions
- Seat covers with black and orange stitching
- Center console, which was previously available as an accessory at Mahindra dealerships
- Moulded floor mats
The Thar is powered by a 2.5 liter-4 cylinder, CRDe turbo diesel engine that outputs 103 Bhp of peak power and 247 Nm of peak torque. A five speed manual gearbox drives the rear wheels of the Thar in 2WD mode. Activating the 4WD mode sees a Borg Warner four wheel drive mechanism distributing torque to all four wheels of the Thar.
The SUV gets fixed flanges for the 4WD system on all four wheels. Mahindra continues to sell the Thar with a canopy soft top even though enthusiasts have been demanding a hard top that is much more practical for Indian weather conditions. In terms of creature comforts, an air conditioner and a power steering are two bits that Mahindra has equipped the Thar CRDe with.
While Mahindra is yet to reveal prices of the Adventure Edition Thar, the regular CRDe 4X4 variant sell at an ex-showroom Delhi price of 7.37 lakh rupees. The Thar is also available with a BS-3 compatible, 2.5 liter MDI turbo diesel engine that makes 63 Bhp-182.5 Nm. The Thar MDI is meant to cater to the people mover segment, and comes in rear wheel drive and four wheel drive variants. The Thar MDI starts at 4.82 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi.
