This is one of the biggest reasons for the success of the Thar. Automatic transmissions have become very popular lately, people like the convenience of one-pedal driving when they are stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. The cherry on top is that the automatic transmission is offered with diesel as well as a petrol engine. Speaking of the petrol engine, this is the first time that the Thar has been offered with a petrol engine. The petrol engine has brought in a lot of new customers towards the Thar. On the previous generation, the diesel engine was quite old, noisy and then there were the pollution constraints that people considered. However, the new petrol engine is known for its smoothness and linear power delivery. The Thar is now also more practical than ever. Despite being a 3-door off-roader SUV, it comes with proper front-facing rear seats in which the occupants can be comfortable and still you have a little bit of boot space. Mahindra also re-worked the ladder-frame chassis and the suspension setup so now the Thar also rides and handles better. Due to which it can now be the only car in your garage that can be your daily driver as well as a fun off-roader.

Mahindra delivered 3,100 units of Thar to the dealers in January 2021 which is highest since its launch. Mahindra did not expect such an overwhelming response from the Thar due to which they were facing supply chain issues and they have already increased the production. But still, the waiting period of the Thar is around 10 months, depending on the variant and colour you opt for. More recently, 1,577 units of diesel Thar were recalled because of camshaft issues. The vehicles that were built between September 7 and December 25 have been affected by the issue. Mahindra is contacting the owners of the vehicles and rectifying the issue at the authorized service centre free of charge. You can read more about the issue by clicking here.
