Mahindra recently launched a new variant of their popular budget off roader, the Thar. This new variant, named Earth Edition, comes with a host of changes over the regular Thar. The Earth Edition is available only in Thar 4×4 with a hard top configuration. Let’s understand the key changes of Mahindra Thar Earth Edition with the help of a YouTube video uploaded by Namaste Cars.

The YouTuber starts the video in his own style that is with the key. The key of Thar Earth Edition is the same as the regular one, which is a flip key with two buttons. The most noticeable change is the exterior of the car, which is now finished in a unique shade that Mahindra calls ‘Desert Fury’. The entire theme of the car is inspired by Rajasthan’s Thar desert.

The grille comes with desert fury-colored slats and black borders as compared to the all-black of regular Thar. No other changes have been made to the front fascia of the car. Coming to the side, there are no major changes except Earth Edition badge on the B-pillar and desert fury colored inserts on the alloys. Earth Edition specific decals are also applied on the doors.

The rear profile of the car is the exactly same as the regular Thar. One noticeable change done all around the car is the color of badging which is now changed to matte black from chrome. Stepping inside, the entire theme of the interior is changed. The interior is now finished in desert fury and black as opposed to all black earlier.

Changes in the interior include –
• All chrome elements changed to dark chrome.
• Desert Fury coloured accents on various places such as the steering wheel, door and AC vents surrounds.
• The seat covers follow the same theme as the interior that is Desert Fury and black. Also, the headrests have a special pattern on theme which is inspired from the shifting dunes of Thar desert.

Overall, the Thar Earth Edition could be an appealing option for those looking for something different from the regular colours. The Desert Fury colour, while looking understated, can get a lot of eyes on the road.

Thar Earth Edition is available only in the top end 4×4 Hard Top variant of the Mahindra Thar. Buyers have a choice to choose a diesel or petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter.

Mahindra Thar comes with two engine options: a 2.0 liter turbo petrol producing 150 Bhp and 300 Nm of torque and a 2.2 liter diesel unit producing 130 Bhp and 320 Nm of torque. Mahindra offers the Thar in both 4×4 and 4×2 configuration catering to the diverse customer needs. The automaker is also testing the 5-door version of the Thar which can be launched really soon.

Mahindra hasn’t compromised on safety. The Thar has been awarded a 4-star rating by Global NCAP for adult and child occupants. It boasts a number of safety features, including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and a built-in roll cage for rollover protection.
