Mahindra Thar gets stuck on a steep slope while off-roading [Video]

Mahindra Thar is without any doubt one of the most popular 4×4 SUV one can buy in India. It was launched in 2020 and quickly became popular for its rugged looks and attractive pricing. Mahindra Thar is a capable off-roader and we have seen several videos of the same online. Here we have a video where a stock Mahindra Thar gets stuck on a steep slope while off-roading.

The video has been uploaded by Small Town Rider on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger and his friend along with two new generation Mahindra Thar owners go off-roading. They take the SUVs to the usual spot where their group normally comes on weekend. It is actually a dried up river bed with lot of loose sand and rocks.

At first, the black Mahindra Thar approaches a small sand cliff like section where the drop was quite steep. The driver stopped the SUV right before edge as the chances of damaging the bumper and underbody were high in this angle. Vlogger then guides the driver to take the SUV in reverse and approach the obstacle from a different angle. In the second try, One of the rear wheel went in air because of the tricky angle of the slope.

The driver got out from the SUV and one of the experienced driver from the group took control of the steering and took the SUV down. After the black Thar, the Red Thar also came down the same section very easily. Both the SUVs then tried several sand tracks that the vlogger and his off-road group had explored in the past. After exploring the place, the SUVs were returning when they found a steep slope with loose sand and ruts in it. The slope looked challenging so the Red Mahindra Thar decided to check if it can climb up the stretch or not.

Both the Thars had cleared all the obstacles before this. The Thar driver approached the steep slope with some speed but, due to the uneven surface he could not maintain the momentum. The car could not climb up and the wheels started loosing traction in the sand. Mahindra Thar comes with All-Terrain Tyres from factory which can handle fair share of off-roading. In extreme conditions it is recommended to use tyres that are specifically made for the purpose.

The Mahindra Thar driver took the car back to the bottom of the slope and tried climbing up the section. As the surface was uneven the underbody of the SUV was also getting stuck at places which was making it even more harder for the driver to get the SUV up. The SUVs had driven down the steep slope in the past but, were not able to climb up. In the next trial, the Mahindra Thar got stuck but, if it could have managed to gain a bit more momentum, the SUV would have clearly come up. The SUV was not moving forward or in reverse so the vlogger and his friend had to push the SUV back to the bottom. The SUV could not climb up in the video. It is not because the Thar is not a capable SUV. It is because in stock form Thar has some limitations. If the the ground clearance of the SUV was slightly more and if it was equipped with better tyres, it might have climbed up easily.
