Mahindra launched Thar in Mumbai today. Thar 4×4 CRDe is priced at Rs. 5.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and DI version Rs. 4.47 lakhs (ex-showroom, Jaipur).

AVALABILITY

In Phase I, Mahindra Thar will be available in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mangalore and Cochin. Mahindra may likely launch Thar  in other places in a later period.

RETRO LOOKS

Mahindra, during the launch function mentioned that ‘retro’ vehicles are back. Fiat 500 and Volkswagen Beetle have been launched as people like ‘retro look’ vehicles and Mahindra Thar is one among them.

Mahindra Thar is an old MM540 / 550 look-alike made a bit more stylized and sophisticated. The familiar ‘Jeep’ design never appears boring, at least to the hardcore Mahindra or Jeep loyalists. However, the similarity ends there and we can expect many parts from the Scorpio, Xylo and Bolero bins in the new Thar 4×4.

‘ALL IN ONE’ THAR

Mahindra Thar is a comfortable 4×4 vehicle and suitable for all terrains. Along with the powerful engine, Thar is capable of cruising at 150 kmph (top speed) and thus ensures as much ‘cruise-ability’ as ‘off-road’ capability.

Mahindra Thar ‘hates tar and kisses concrete good bye’ because it is positioned as a ‘true blue 4×4 vehicle’. Thar is available with many customizations from Mahindra with warranty. There are a host of accessories that Mahindra offers based on buyer’s requirements. Mahindra Thar fan page in Facebook (0nline community) has more than 44,500 fans.

THAR ENGINE

Mahindra Thar CRDe 4×4 is powered by a 2.5 litre CRDe engine that generates 105 hp @ 3800 rpm and torque of 247 Nm at 1800 – 2000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission, a 2 speed gear reduction (Ratios – High 1.0:1 and Low 2.48:1) and will feature Borg Warner manual shift for 4×4.
