All-new Mahindra Thar 4X4 shows off its off-road abilities

Mahindra Thar is one of the most affordable off-road SUV that you can currently buy in India. Few months ago, manufacturer launched the all-new version of the SUV and like its older version, it new Mahindra Thar was also a instant hit. It is so popular that it sold out till May 2021. Ever since it was launched we have been seeing several off-road videos of Thar on the internet showing its off-road capabilities. Here we have another video that shows a stock Mahindra Thar with no modifications showing its off-road capabilities in a rural part of the country.

The video has been uploaded by Waquar Chaudhary on his youtube channel. The video starts by showing a clip that test the approach and departure angle of the SUV. In order to test that what vloggers basically do is find a steep section where a normal car would hit its bumper. The vlogger smoothly accelerates and the SUV starts climbing. The section was so steep that Thar in its stock form could not climb up. There front and the rear bumpers did not hit the ground and the surface was so slippery that the wheels were also spinning.

The Next they drive it on the rough roads and the camera installed inside the cabin reveals how much body roll were the occupants actually feeling. This is quite normal on an SUV because if its platform. They even take it to a small muddy section were a normal car would have got stuck very easily. In first attempt, there was no momentum in the vehicle to cross the section, so it got stuck halfway. The driver then backs the vehicle a bit and then hit the section with some speed. The SUV smoothly crosses the section without any drama.

After this they take it on to a section where the muddy roads were quite narrow. The other two occupants in the car got out to guide the driver so that the SUV doesn’t fall into the pit. Driver smoothly moves the vehicle forward and with minimum throttle input, it finally made it to the bottom. The SUV behaved pretty well in such conditions. The video is a perfect example that shows how capable Thar actually is, even in stock form.

Mahindra Thar is an all-new vehicle in every sense. It uses an all-new platform which we would be seeing in the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio as well. The Thar has improved a lot in terms of fit and finish and the list of features it offers. The SUV gets touchscreen infotainment screen, roof mounted speakers, front facing rear seats and so on. It is now available with soft top, soft-top convertible and hard top options from factory itself.

It is available with two engine options. There is a 2.0 litre mStallion turbo petrol engine that generates 150 Bhp and 320 Nm of torque and a 2.2 litre mHawk turbo diesel engine that generates 130 Bhp and 320 Nm of torque. Both petrol and diesel engine options come with manual and automatic gearbox options. Mahindra will be soon discontinuing the 6-seater version of Thar as it is not as safe as the 4-seater version that scored 4 star rating at Global NCAP crash test.
