Mahindra to add more features to XUV700 in 2022

Mahindra XUV700 is already a huge success in the Indian market. According to Team-BHP, Mahindra will launch an update to the XUV700 by the end of 2022. The update will bring more features to the XUV700. Mahindra will also discontinue slow-selling variants of the XUV700 in 2022.

Features that Mahindra will add could be powered tailgate, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror and ventilated seats. The XUV700 still misses out on ambient lighting, paddle shifters, puddle lamps, front parking sensors and adjustable second row. It is also being said that the facelift of the XUV700 will come with a more powerful tune of diesel engine. The XUV700’s facelift would produce 210 bhp and the engine will use a twin-scroll turbocharger.

Mahindra was able to gather 25,000 bookings of the XUV700 in less than one hour. The first 25,000 units also had a special price. Since then the prices of the XUV700 has been increased by Rs. 50,000.

Pricing and competitors

The XUV700 starts at Rs. 12.49 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 22.99 lakhs ex-showroom. It goes against the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar. The SUV also competes against the mid-spec and top-spec variants of MG Astor, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

The XUV700 is offered in two trims. There is MX and AX. MX Trim is only offered as a 5-seater. Then there is the AX which is offered in three variants. There is AX3 and AX5 that are offered as a 5-seater or 7-seater. Then there is and AX7 and AX7 Luxury which is only offered as a 7-seater.

Engine and gearbox

Mahindra is offering the XUV700 with a petrol as well as a diesel engine. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that comes with direct injection. It belongs to the mStallion family of the engines that were revealed at the Auto Expo 2020. Then there is the diesel engine that has a displacement of 2.2-litre and belongs to the mHawk family of engines.

The petrol engine produces 200 PS of max power and 380 Nm of peak torque. It can hit 60 kmph in just 5 seconds and Mahindra says that the engine is capable of taking the XUV700 to 200 kmph. The diesel engine is offered in two states of tune. The MX variant gets a lower 155 PS of max power and 360 Nm of peak torque. All the other variants, get a higher state of tune in which the engine produces 185 PS of max power and 420 Nm. Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The diesel engine’s torque output is increased to 450 Nm if you opt for the automatic gearbox.

The diesel engine also comes with four driving modes. There is Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom. You can also get the Diesel AT AX7 variant with an all-wheel drive powertrain. It is not a proper 4×4 system like we have seen on the Mahindra Thar. However, it will still come in handy in slippery and tricky situations like muddy or snow covered roads.
