Mahindra is known as the biggest SUV producer in the country and with its highly successful models like XUV 700, Thar, and Scorpio N, it has taken the nation by storm. The company has been enjoying a ton of success with increasing sales of its new-gen SUVs, however, it does not take away the fact that it still has some duds in its line-up. Despite the rapid growth of the company, it is still finding it difficult to sell some of its previously launched SUVs, and to remedy this it is believed that the company will be discontinuing some of the models in its portfolio very soon.
Starting off the list of the models currently under consideration for discontinuation is the company’s smallest SUV – the KUV 100. Mahindra first debuted the KUV 100 back in 2016 and at the time it was one of the first SUVs of this size to be launched in the country.
Despite India’s obsession with SUVs it did not manage to garner a lot of interest among buyers, and the sales gradually slumped. So much so that in November of this year the company managed to only dispatch two units of the KUV 100. Hence it is believed that Mahindra could soon discontinue this model.

Next up on the chopping block could be Mahindra’s answer to the mighty Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6 – the Marazzo. With only 201 units sold in November 2022 marking a decline of 5.63 percent on a month-on-month basis, the Marazzo is one of the models on the product lineup that could be axed very soon. The lack of a petrol mill and an automatic transmission option meant that it could not give the Maruti MPV siblings a run for their money despite being a pretty good overall vehicle.
Finally, the last model which has already been removed from the brand’s official website is the company’s flagship model – the Alturas G4. The Alturas G4 has been living in the shadows in Mahindra’s lineup ever since the XUV 700 debuted, taking the Alturas G4’s place as the lineup’s star. The Fortuner, the top-of-the-line SUV’s direct opponent, also presented fierce rivalry, which contributed to its weak sales. And it would be challenging for the brand to continue producing the vehicle now that it is parting ways with the SsangYong brand. For those who are unaware, the SsangYong Rexton served as the base for the Alturas G4. CKD kits from the SsangYong plant in South Korea were previously utilized by Mahindra to construct the vehicle in India.
In other Mahindra news, the brand-new Scorpio-N recently received a five-star rating in the latest lineup of crash tests conducted by Global NCAP. Following the revised testing process, the brand-new SUV was rated three stars for kid safety and a complete five stars for adult safety. The new Mahindra Scorpio-N is the company’s third SUV to receive a five-star safety rating. The new Scorpio-N achieved a rating of 28.94 out of 48 for child occupant protection and 29.25 out of 34 for adult occupant protection. The Mahindra Scorpio-N also did quite well in the new test protocol’s side impact test.
