Mahindra will open all-India bookings for the XUV500 from 8th June 2012. So far, the XUV500 was made available only in 19 cities across India and now, with all India availability, the bookings of the XUV500 may increase double fold.
The announcement has come at a time when, units worth nine months of production capacity have been sold out already due to overwhelming demand in the market. In order to clear the backlog, the production capacity of the XUV500 has been ramped up to 4,000 units per month.
‘It has been an incredible journey so far for the XUV500 and we are pleased to take the product national. We have been inundated with requests for re-opening of bookings not just from existing cities but also from cities where the XUV500 was not available,” Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra said.
He added that the company has ramped-up its production capacity significantly and it is confident that it will be able to take of the growing all-India demand for the XUV500. The XUV500 has received more bookings than some of the sub- Rs. 10 lakh sedans, which stands as an illustration for its VFM proposition. In the second phase of bookings (XUV500 lucky draw), Mahindra received more than 25,000 applications within 10 days (between Jan 25th, 2012 and Feb 3rd). Out of the 25,000 applications, only 7,200 were picked up through a lucky draw. The results were announced on February 15th, 2012 and deliveries began later. Also read: XUV500 lucky draw
