Mahindra to showcase a convertible SUV at 2018 Auto Expo

During the 2016 Auto Expo, Mahindra captivated the onlookers with its coupe-SUV styled XUV Aero. This year, the manufacturer will showcase another bold design at the event. Mahindra is planning to showcase an SUV convertible concept, which will be first of its kind made by an Indian manufacturer.

The new convertible will get ladder frame underpinnings borrowed from the TUV 300. However, the body will not have any resemblance to the boxy design of the TUV 300. The car is expected to get flowing design lines to attract the young buyers. It is not known if the convertible top will be a hard top or a soft top. Mahindra is known for its unorthodox concepts and the convertible SUV will be the crowd puller this year.

The SUV will be under 4-meters in length just like the TUV 300. However, it will require some great designing to keep the convertible in right proportions. The concept could be a two-door layout with two seats for the occupants. We may see large 17-inch rims and other features like LED headlamps.

The engine details are not known but the convertible could be powered by 1.5-litre, three-cylinder, mHawk 100 diesel engine that produces maximum power of 98.6 Bhp and 240 Nm in the TUV 300. We may see a production version of the vehicle after Mahindra receives the feedback from the market similar to what Mahindra has done for the XUV Aero.

Mahindra has a pretty interesting line-up for the Indian market in 2018. The Indian brand may launch the updated XUV 500 that will get a more powerful engine and a few styling updates. Mahindra will also launch a new sub 4-meter compact SUV that is codenamed as S201. Other much-awaited launches in the block are U321 MPV, KUV electric and the XUV 700. All of these products are expected to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.
