Mahindra & Mahindra will soon launch the AMT variant of the XUV300 sub-4 meter compact SUV now that the vehicle has been spied during a TVC shoot. TVC shoots of a new car generally happen a weeks before launch. What this means is that the XUV300 AMT is nearly launch ready. Mahindra will offer the AMT option on the W8 trim. Both petrol and diesel variants of the compact SUV are likely to get the 6 speed AMT. The AMT variants are likely to be about Rs. 80,000 pricier than equivalent manual petrol and diesel trims.

The SUV’s manual variants are available with two engines – both of which make class leading outputs. The petrol motor is a 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged unit with 115 Bhp-200 Nm while the diesel is a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged unit with 115 Bhp-300 Nm. Notably, the diesel engine that the XUV300 uses is the same unit found on the Marazzo MPV. Both the petrol and diesel engines on the XUV300 are paired to six speed manual gearboxes that drive the front wheels of the SUV. Mahindra has no plans to offer an all wheel drive mode, even as an option. This means that even the AMT variants will be front wheel driven.

The Mahindra XUV300 is one of the priciest SUVs in its segment but the automaker has ensured that the vehicle is stuffed with features in order to justify the higher price tag. Prices of the petrol powered XUV300 start from Rs. 7.9 lakhs while those of the diesel start from Rs. 8.5 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. A Ssangyong Tivoli under the skin, the Mahindra XUV300 has been shortened to fit the sub-4 meter length that all compact SUVs in India need to confirm to for excise buty benefits. Mahindra has ensured that the XUV300 does retain most of the safety features that the Tivoli offers.
