Bookings for the Mahindra XUV300 opened on the 9th of January, 2019, and ever since, the sub-4 meter compact SUV has managed to log 13,000 bookings. In fact, the SUV has also outsold the Ford Ecosport in the month of February 2019, and is now behind the Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza. Mahindra wants to capture about 15-20 % of the sub-4 meter compact SUV market in India, which does about 25,000 unit sales each month on an average. The XUV300 bagging about 5,000 monthly units is something that Mahindra would be quite happy about.
Meanwhile, Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales & Marketing, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has this to say about the XUV300’s bookings performance,
We are extremely happy with the overwhelming response to the XUV300. In a highly competitive segment such as the Compact SUV, we have received over 13,000 bookings and in the very first month itself, we have entered into the top 3. This is in-line with our objective of achieving 15 to 20% share of this segment and reaffirms the fact that the XUV300 proposition has resonated well with the customers. What is also encouraging is that over 75% of our bookings are for the top end variants of the XUV300.
The Mahindra XUV300 was launched in India on the 14th of February 2019. In terms of pricing, Mahindra took the premium approach, but loaded the SUV with segment leading features. The petrol version of the XUV300 starts from Rs. 7.9 lakhs while the diesel powered model is priced from Rs. 8.49 lakhs. These figures make the XUV300 more expensive than both the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Brezza but slightly cheaper than the Ford EcoSport.
The XUV300 does have some impressive specifications. The petrol motor – a 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine – makes 110 Bhp-200 Nm, with the torque figure being a segment leading output. The diesel motor – a 1.5 liter unit – makes class leading power and torque numbers – 115 Bhp-300 Nm.
Both engines drive the front wheels of the SUV, and Mahindra has no plans to offer an all wheel drive layout. While a 6 speed manual gearbox is standard with both engines, Mahindra is working on 6 speed AMT options for both the petrol and diesel engines. The AMT variants of the XUV300 will be launched by the end of this year. Mahindra also offers a range of official accessories through its dealerships for the new SUV. These accessories will ensure that the factory warranty remains intact.
Mahindra is also developing an electric variant of the XUV300, which is due for launch in 2020. The XUV300 Electric is touted to offer a range between 250-300 Kms, and impressive acceleration and top speed numbers. A quick charging facility will also be available with the SUV. As for pricing, the all electric XUV300 is expected to sit at about Rs. 15 lakhs.
