Mahindra has just launched the XUV300 sub-4 meter compact SUV in India. Prices start from Rs. 7.90 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The diesel trim’s prices start from Rs. 8.49 lakhs. The Mahindra XUV300 is based on the Ssangyong X100 platform, which is also used by the Tivoli compact SUV from the South Korean automaker. Bookings for the new SUV are already open and deliveries will begin from today.
While the Tivoli measures over 4 meters in length, Mahindra has shortened the XUV300 to under 4 meters for availing excise duty benefits, and has also given the new SUV a totally different design to clearly differentiate it from the Ssangyong vehicle. In India, the XUV300 rivals the Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.
The SUV is offered in four variants – W4, W6, W8 and W8 (O) – and is offered with two engine options. The petrol engine is a newly developed 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged unit that makes 110 Bhp of peak power and a class leading 200 Nm of peak torque.
The diesel engine is borrowed from the Marazzo MPV, and is a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder unit that puts out class leading outputs of 115 Bhp-300 Nm. Both engines get 6 speed manual gearboxes as standard. AMT options for both engines will be made available later this year, and once that happens, the XUV300 will join the Tata Nexon in offering automatic options with both petrol and diesel engines.
A late entrant to the hugely competitive sub-4 meter compact SUV segment, the monocoque bodied Mahindra XUV300 is front wheel driven across variants. Mahindra has loaded up the SUV with a range of features. Safety features on offer are class leading. 7 airbags, ABS+EBD, ESP, roll over mitigation, hill Hold, disc brakes on all four wheels, front parking sensors, rear parking sensors + camera, speed alert and seat belt reminder will be offered on the top-end trim. Lower variants will get ABS and twin airbags as standard, along with speed alert and seat belt reminder.
As for the various features that the different variants of the Mahindra XUV300 will offer, here’s the split. The entry level W4 variant of the XUV300 in petrol trim will offer 16 inch steel rims, multi mode steering, gear shift indicator in the instrument cluster, powered tail gate release and a 4 speaker audio system.
ABS and twin airbags will be standard. The W6 variants in petrol and diesel will add steering mounted controls, remote key, wheel caps for the steel wheels, silver accented grille, door cladding, blacked out roof rails and a hatch lid spoiler with a high mount stop lamp.
The W8 trim will add height adjustable adjustable driver’s seat, push button start, keyless entry, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6 speaker audio, reverse parking camera, cruise control, dual zone climate control, leather wrapped steering and gear knob, projector headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, ambient lighting, heated wing mirrors and satin finish for the front and rear skid plates.
The top-end W8(O) trim will add 5 more airbags, front parking sensors, auto dimming inner rear view mirror, tyre pressure monitoring system, leather wrapped interiors, ESP, hill hold, diamond cut 17 inch alloy wheels, electric sunroof and a two tone paint scheme.
