Mahindra XUV300 7 seater to all-new Hyundai Creta: 6 upcoming compact SUVs

2019 is going to be a big year for SUVs in India. Tata and Nissan have already launched their new SUVs in the form of Harrier and Kicks while Mahindra too has launched the XUV300. Apart from these, a slew of other SUVs are planned to launched in the coming time in every segment. The SUV segment is showing a lot of growth in India and all the manufacturers want to jump in the bandwagon in order to pull customers towards their dealerships. If you are planning to get an SUV soon, here is a list of the various upcoming compact mid size SUVs that will be launched here in the coming time.

Mahindra XUV300 7-seater

Expected Launch by: End 2019

The long wheelbase version of the XUV300 would be offered with 7 seater layout by Mahindra. It will be based on the SsangYong Tivoli and will have the same wheelbase as the Tivoli or even larger. The Tivoli is offered with 5 seats but expect the new Mahindra SUV to cut down on boot and instead offer extra seating option. Rumors have been doing round that it could be named as the XUV400 but nothing is confirmed as of now. It will be powered by the same set of engines that will be found under the XUV300, which are a 1.5 litre diesel unit and a 1.2 litre petrol unit.

New Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta is the current best selling compact SUV in India and to maintain the lead, the Koran manufacturer will launch an all new version of the SUV soon. It will be larger, more powerful and better equipped than the model it replaces. The new Hyundai Creta will be powered by 1.5 liter petrol and diesel engines and Hyundai will also bring in a larger 7 seater version of the Creta in India. The SUV is also likely to be made ready for a hybrid and all-electric future. The new Creta is expected to be feature-rich, just like the current model.

KIA SP2i

Kia has been planning for its India debut since long and the Korean manufacturer will make its foray this year. The first vehicle Kia will launch here will be a SUV based on the SP Concept which has been showcased earlier. It will share its platform apart from other mechanical bits from the upcoming new Hyundai Creta and will be among the most feature loaded SUVs of its segment. As for the powertrains, the Kia SUV it is likely to be powered by a 1.4 litre turbo petrol engine producing 140 Bhp. A 1.5 litre petrol and diesel engine is also expected.

Skoda Kamiq

Skoda will also launch a new SUV in the compact mid size segment that will challenge the likes of Hyundai Creta among others. The Czech automaker will aim at customers who want a feature rich and premium alternative to its Hyundai counterpart. The upcoming Kamiq SUV will be based on the same platform that underpins the upcoming Volkswagen T-Cross, that is, the MQB-A0 platform. It has been already been caught testing internationally and Skoda will showcase the SUV during the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo in production form.

Volkswagen T-Cross

Volkswagen T Cross Featured

Volkswagen has been planning a new approach for India and will focus on the SUV market now. The German auto manufacturer has been lying low since some time but it will bring in a new compact SUV in the form of the new T-Cross. It is based on the MQB-A0, which is used on many other vehicles across the Volkswagen family. It is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol unit that churns out 128 Bhp of power and 196 Nm of torque. Other engine options could be a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine that will produce around 150 Bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. A third engine option will be a 1.6-litre MSI petrol that churns out 110 Bhp of power.

Renault Duster

The Duster was among the initial wave of mid size compact SUVs in India and was a big seller for long. In the face of new competition, it has begin to feel a bit dated now and for the same, Rnault will launch the new Duster soon. The compact SUV will be built on the B-Zero platform which underpins many other vehicles like the Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur. The new Duster will have an all new cabin design and will come with many new features. The same pair of petrol and diesel engines will be carried forward. On the exterior, the design has been refreshed and the SUV now sports a new grille and bumper among other bits. Expect Renault to bring the new Duster to India by the end of this year.
