Last year, Mahindra unveiled the production version of their electric SUV XUV400. Few months after the media drives, Mahindra has now officially launched the XUV400 SUV in the market at Rs 15.99 lakh, ex-showroom. Although Mahindra has announced the prices, they have not yet started accepting bookings for the same. Official bookings for the XUV400 electric SUV will start on January 26, 2023. The prices announced at the moment are part of an introductory offer and are applicable for first 5,000 bookings. This is Mahindra’s first electric SUV to come with the new twin peak logo. Mahindra is offering the XUV400 in two variants – EC and EL.
The direct competitor to the XUV400 will be the well-established Tata Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max. Nexon EV’s price starts at rs 14.99L and EV Max’s price starts at Rs 18L approx.

As mentioned above, Mahindra is offering the XUV400 in two variants. The first EC variant is powered by a 34.5 kWh battery pack that generates 150 Ps and 310 Nm of peak torque. The EC variant has a certified driving range of 375 km (MIDC) which is more than the Tata Nexon EV prime – best selling EV in the country. The EC variant comes with features like all 4 disc brakes, R16 steel rims, halogen headlamps, LED tail lamps, L-mode: City assist for single pedal driving, connected car features, drive modes & steering modes, electrically adjustable ORVMs, manual AC, fabric seats, adjustable driver seat and so on.
The next is the EL variant. This variant uses a 39.4 kWh battery pack that generates 150 Ps and 310 Nm of peak torque. The power figures remain the same however the range that this variant offers is more. It offers a certified driving range of 456 km which is once again more than the Nexon EV Max. Other than features that are available with the EC variant, EL offers features like follow me home headlamps, reverse parking camera, side & curtain airbags, 16 inch diamond cut alloy wheels, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, start/stop button, automatic headlamp and wiper, leatherette upholstery, electric sunroof, front and rear armrest and so on.
The lower EC variant of the XUV400 is available with two charger option. The 3.3 kW charger version is available at Rs 15.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The 7.2 kW version is priced at Rs 16.49 lakh, ex-showroom. The XUV400 EL variant is priced at Rs 18.99 lakh, ex-showroom. Mahindra claims that the XUV400 has the fastest acceleration in the non-luxury segment. The electric SUV can do 0-100 kmph sprint in just 8.3 seconds and it has a top speed of 150 kmph. XUV400 is not a sub-4 meter SUV. It is 4200 mm long and boasts a wheelbase of 2600 mm. It translates to excellent cabin space and legroom. It also offers best-in-class boot space of 378 litres.
Mahindra will open bookings from 26 January and the deliveries for the same would start from March 2023 from XUV400 EL variant and during Diwali festive season for the XUV400 EC variant. Mahindra plans to sell around 20,000 units of EV within first year of launch. The XUV400 will be launched in 34 cities in phase 1. Ahmedabad, Surat, Jaipur, Mumbai MMR, Nasik, Verna (Goa), Pune, Nagpur, Bangalore, Chennai, Trivandrum, Cochin, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Delhi NCT, Kolkata, Dehradun, Coimbatore, Aurangabad, Bhubaneshwar, Kolhapur, Mysore, Mangalore, Vadodara, Patna, Calicut, Raipur, Ludhiana, Udaipur, Jammu, Guwahati, Lucknow, Agra, Indore are the cities where the XUV400 SUV will be available initially.
Mahindra is offering five exciting colour options with XUV400 – Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black and Infinity Blue with dual tone option of Satin Copper. The electric SUV comes with a standard warranty of 3 years / unlimited kms and will additionally come with a warranty of 8 years or 160,000 kms (whichever is earlier) for the battery & motor.
