Mahindra has discontinued the BS4 compliant XUV500 in the Indian market and will soon launch the new BS6 compliant version of the XUV500. Mahindra has already updated the official website with the technical details and specifications and we may get to see the launch of the car very soon in the Indian market. With the update, nothing much changes in the XUV500 BS6 except for the engine update and variants.
The official website says that the new BS6 compliant XUV500 will not get the W3 variant, which was the entry-level trim of the car. The car will now be available from the W5 variant and there will be four trims. Apart from the W5 variant, the XUV500 will get W7, W9 and the W11(O) trim level. However, Mahindra will not offer the All Wheel Drive (AWD) system with the BS6 compliant car anymore.
The existing 2.2-litre diesel engine has been updated to meet the new stricter BS6 emission compliance. It produces a similar 153 Bhp at 3,750 rpm and peak torque of 360 Nm between 1,750 and 2,800 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Mahindra offers the automatic transmission as an option with the W7, W9 and W11(O) variants. Only the base version of the car will not offer an automatic transmission.
Mahindra has not altered the feature list of the car in any way. It remains the same as the previous BS4 version and offers features like diamond-stitched leather seats, electrically-controlled sunroof, soft-touch plastic plus leather dashboard, piano black central console, 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, twin-pod cluster, icy-blue ambient lighting, illuminated scuff plates, cooled glove box, smartwatch connectivity, connected apps and more. It also gets 6 airbags, monocoque construction, hill descent & hill hold, electronic stability program with a rollover mitigation system, ABS with EBD and more. The infotainment system now supports Apple CarPlay connectivity alongside Android Auto. The Mahindra XUV500 is available in seven colour options. There is Crimson Red, Mystic Copper, Opulent Purple, Volcano Black, Lake-side Brown, Pearl White and Moondust Silver.
Mahindra is currently working on the next-generation XUV500 that is expected to be launched by the end of 2021 or early 2022. It will be developed by Ford and Mahindra and the SUV will be shared by both the brands when launched. The all-new Mahindra XUV500 will get a different look and will be sold through the Ford dealerships.
