The 2.2 liter mHawk turbo diesel engine, good for 140 Bhp-330 Nm, continues to power the crossover while transmission duties are handled by a 6 speed manual gearbox. Mahindra has given the XUV500 Sportz a limited run of 1,000 units.

The limited edition is priced at 13.85 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi, and is available on the top-end W8 front wheel drive variant of the XUV500. The pricing represents  26,000 rupee premium over that of the regular W8 FWD variant. The changes on the Sportz Limited Edition of the XUV500 are:

  • Sportz decals and badging
  • Alloy wheels with red inserts
  • Reverse camera
  • Leather-fabric seats
  • Red accents for fog lamps, roof rails and door handles

The Sportz Special Edition version of the XUV500 is intended to make the crossover more visible and attract a new set of buyers as sales have been on the down slide for the past few months. The crossover is available in four other variants, W4, W6, W8 and W8 AWD.

The W4 variant was recently introduced and is a cut price model that is shorn of many features. On the top-end W8 variant, the XUV500 comes loaded with 6 airbags, ESP, hill hold control and ABS+EBD. The crossover offers generous equipment levels that represent stonking value, especially when compared with what’s offered by D-Segment sedans and other similarly priced SUVs.

A major facelift for this crossover will come next year, when Mahindra is also expected to a add a newly developed 6 speed automatic gearbox into the equation. The new automatic gearbox for the XUV500 is said to be developed by Japanese transmission major Aisin. The new, automatic gearbox will be shared with Ssangyong SUVs.
