Mahindra XUV700 Electric SUV spotted testing: Spy pictures surface online

In August, Mahindra unveiled their five upcoming electric vehicles in an event. One of the electric SUV showcased at the event was the electric version of the XUV700. As we already know, the upcoming electric SUVs from Mahindra will be offered under  two different sub-brands (XUV.e. & BE.). The first electric SUV to hit the production line would the XUV700 electric or the XUV.e8 SUV. The concept of the upcoming XUV.e8 was showcased at the event and now, a prototype of the same has been spotted testing in India. The spy pictures of the upcoming Mahindra XUV700 electric SUV has now surfaced online.

Mahindra XUV.e8 as mentioned above is the electric version of the XUV700 SUV which was launched in the market last year. The spy picture shows the XUV.e8 SUV with heavy camouflage on it. The basic design of the prototype looks similar to the ICE version of the XUV700. The design of the XUV700 electric might see some changes when hits the production line. The one seen here in the video is still a pre-production version.

The changes that are expected to be seen on the production version of Mahindra XUV 700 electric is a completely closed front grille like other EVs in the market, headlmaps mounted on the bumper like what we saw in the concept. This would give the SUV a distinct identity when compared to the regular XUV700. The bumper and the tail lamps are also expected to see some changes. We saw the interiors of the XUV.e8 concept which was showcased last month. It was similar to the ICE version of XUV700. The production version of the electric XUV700 would have a similar looking cabin but with EV specific changes. We are not sure whether the XUV700 electric would come with three digital screens on the dashboard like seen in the concept.

When compared with the petrol or diesel version of XUV700, the XUV.e8 concept is longer, taller and wider. The wheelbase of the electric version is also longer than the ICE version. It is based on INGLO modular electric skatebpoard platform. This new platform would underpin Mahindra’s upcoming electric vehicles. Coming to the electric motor and battery pack, Mahindra had confirmed that they will be offering a 80 kWh pattery pack for the electric XUV700. The SUV would generate anywhere between 230 Bhp to 350 Bhp.

Even before the launch of XUV700 electric, Mahindra will be launching a XUV400 which is the electric version of their popular sub-4 meter SUV XUV300. The XUV400 is not a sub-4 meter SUV and the media drives for the same had happened at Mahindra’s SUV proving ground in Tamil Nadu recently. This would be Mahindra’s first long range electric SUV that compete with the likes of Tata Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max. The XUV400 will be offered with a 39.4 kWh battery pack and the SUV would generate 150 Ps and 310 Nm of torque. Like their petrol and diesel SUVs, Mahindra is likely to come up with an attractive price for the XUV400. Mahindra will be officially launching the XUV400 SUV in the market in January next year.
