Mahindra’s next launch for the Indian market will be the new XUV 700. The new SUV will be positioned above the current XUV 500 and will be the new flagship for Mahindra until they launch the XUV 900. According to the reports, the new SUV will be offered with an electric powerplant also. It is not yet clear if it will be a plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid or an all-electric powertrain. What we do know is that the XUV 700 will come with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both the engines will be offered with a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. The XUV 700 is expected to launch around September-October.
Currently, Mahindra is testing the diesel engine in three states of tune. There is a 180 bhp version, 190 bhp version and a 210 bhp version. The 210 bhp tune of the engine will produce 450 Nm, making it the most powerful engine in the segment. Having said that, it is highly likely that Mahindra will be using the 180 bhp tune while the 210 bhp tune can be used for a facelift version of the SUV and the upcoming XUV 900 coupe-SUV
Even opting for the base tune of 180 bhp would make the XUV 700 the most powerful SUV in the segment. For reference, the MG Hector Plus and the Tata Safari is offered with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 170 PS of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5-litre in the upcoming Alcazar produces 115 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The XUV 700 would also come with a 2.0-litre petrol engine that should produce around 190 bhp of max power. Both the engines would be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. There would also be an option of a 4×4 drivetrain on the higher variants.
Segment leading features
When the current XUV 500 was first launched, the SUV came with lots of segment-first features. This helped in attracting a lot of people. Mahindra would be replicating the same formula and would be offering a lot of segment-first features with the new XUV 700.
Mahindra is expected to offer Advanced Drive Aids System with the XUV 700. This would make it the first SUV to offer ADAS features in the segment. So, it can come with adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning and forward collision warning. Currently, the most affordable vehicle with ADAS features is the MG Gloster.
It would come with a digital driver’s display and a large touchscreen infotainment system which will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system would also be able to play videos. There would be soft-touch materials on the touchpoints, leather upholstery and a large panoramic sunroof. It would also come with cruise control, electric adjustment for the driver seat, multi-information display, LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, front and rear parking sensors, BlueSense connected car technology, tyre pressure monitoring system, push-button to start/stop and much more.
