Mahindra XUV700 Petrol vs XUV700 Diesel in a drag race [Video]

Mahindra XUV700 is currently the most popular SUV in the Indian market. Because of this it has long waiting periods. The XUV700 is also the most powerful SUV in the segment right now. We have shown you several videos that featured XUV700 against its rivals. Here, we have a unique one. In the video, an XUV700 Petrol drag races against XUV700 Diesel. The video is uploaded on YouTube by Ashish Beniwal.

Both the XUV700s are equipped with an automatic transmission and are AX7 variants. The diesel variant is equipped with the Luxury Pack. On paper, the petrol engine produces more power but the diesel engine has more torque.

The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that comes with direct injection. It produces 200 Ps of max power and 380 Nm of peak torque. You can get it with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The diesel engine is a 2.2-litre unit that produces 185 PS of max power and 450 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. If you opt for the 6-speed manual gearbox then the torque output is decreased to 420 Nm.

The host first turns off the traction control and air conditioning of the SUVs. The first race is won by the Petrol AT. It took off the line quicker and maintained its lead. The host did say that there could have been some issues while launching the Diesel AT. The traction control was also not turned off on the Diesel AT because of which it cut down the engine power.

The Diesel AT is not in the Zoom driving mode which is the most powerful mode. The second race is also won by the petrol engine easily. There are no driving modes on offer with the petrol engine. In the third round, the Diesel AT does get ahead but eventually, the Petrol AT gets ahead.

In the fourth round, the Diesel AT is put into Zoom mode. This does put a positive effect because the Diesel AT gets ahead but it is not clear which one wins. In the fifth round, the Petrol AT wins the race. Then the drivers of the SUVs are exchanged, and then also it is the Petrol AT who wins.

In most of the races, the Petrol AT was leading by a good margin. The reason behind this is that the Petrol AT is lighter and is more powerful than the Diesel AT. Diesel engines are usually heavier than petrol engines and this is another reason because of why the Diesel AT lost.

It is important to note that the diesel engine of the XUV700 is also offered in a lower state of tune if you get the MX Trim. In it, the engine is detuned to produce 155 PS of max power and 360 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to only a 6-speed manual gearbox.
