Mahindra XUV700 SUV: Petrol Automatic vs Diesel Automatic in a drag race

Mahindra launched their all-new SUV XUV700 in the market recently. The SUV received an overwhelming response and the deliveries for the same have also started. Mahindra XUV700 is currently the most technologically advanced vehicle from the manufacturer. XUV700 is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Mahindra XUV700 competes with cars like Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari in the segment. Here we have a video where petrol and diesel automatic versions of all-new Mahindra XUV700 are seen competing against each other in a drag race.

The video has been uploaded by Power On Wheel on their YouTube channel. Video starts with vlogger and his friend explaining their plan for the video. Both SUVs in the video are higher variants. One of them is the petrol automatic while the other is diesel automatic SUV. Both SUVs compete against each other to find out which on is better performing.

The Petrol automatic seen in the video is powered by a  2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 200 Ps and 380 Nm of peak torque. The diesel version of the SUV is powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged engine that generates 185 Ps and 450 Nm of peak torque. On paper petrol version of the SUV looked more powerful but, will it win the race to find that out, both the presenters line up the vehicles on the start line.

Vlogger was driving the diesel automatic while his friend was in the petrol version. The race starts and surprisingly, the diesel automatic moved off the line much more aggressively. It must be noted that the diesel version gets drive modes Zip, Zap, Zoom and the petrol version does not get any. Diesel version was engaged in the sportiest mode Zoom for the race and the AC was also turned off.

Diesel version was quick off the line and was slightly ahead of the petrol version. It maintained the lead for quite some time but, as the car started nearing the triple digit mark, the petrol version started showing its true colours and took the lead. petrol variant by a small margin. They do the race once again and the result is the same initial pick up from diesel is better but, as the cars pick up speed, the petrol version overtakes.

They bring the SUVs both back to start line. driver’s exchange the cars and start racing once again. In this round vlogger’s friend who is good at launching cars managed to get a better launch and the diesel version was giving a tough competition to petrol this time. The diesel maintained the lead for most of the part but, as the car neared the finish line, XUV700 took the lead and won once again by a small margin.

Both petrol and diesel automatic versions of XUV700 come with decent power and torque figures. Vlogger ends the video by saying that, if you are a person who likes power, then petrol variant makes sense while, if you want a bit more fuel efficiency, then diesel automatic should be the choice.
