Mahindra has unveiled the much-awaited XUV 700 for the Indian market. The manufacturer also announced the starting price of XUV 700 which shocked everyone. It starts at just Rs. 13.99 lakhs ex-showroom which is very aggressive pricing. The company has now soft-launched the new SUV at their factory. Below are the pictures that were shared on Facebook by DrSelvam Ganesan.
We can see three XUV 700’s standing behind the factory people. Two are finished in silver while the middle one is finished in red. We also know that the XUV 700 will be offered in white, Blue, Dark Blue and Black. There could be more colours once the SUV is finally launched.

As of now, we know that there would be four variants on sale. We have seen MX, AX3 and AX5. At the media event, there was AX7 available too. However, it was still missing some features. So, there is a chance that Mahindra ends up adding a new variant in the future.
Pricing
As of now, only the prices of 5-seater versions has been announced. The MX Petrol starts at Rs. 11.99 lakhs ex-showroom whereas the MX Diesel starts at Rs. 12.49 lakhs ex-showroom. Then there is the AX3 Petrol which is priced at Rs. 13.99 lakhs ex-showroom and then finally there is the AX5 Petrol which costs Rs. 14.99 lakhs ex-showroom. The prices of the diesel engines of the AX3 and AX5 have not been announced nor is the price of the AX7 variant.
Engines and gearbox
The XUV 700 is available with a petrol as well as a diesel engine. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre mStallion unit. It is turbocharged and comes with direct injection. The 2.2-litre diesel engine belongs to the mHawk family. Both the engines are incredibly refined and make the XUV 700, the most powerful SUV in the segment.
The petrol engine puts out 200 PS of max power and 380 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine will be offered in two states of tune. The MX will get the lower state of tune in which the engine would produce 155 PS of max power and 360 Nm of peak torque. On the higher variants, the diesel engine would produce 185 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 420 Nm.
Both the engines would be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox sourced from Aisin. If you opt for the diesel engine with an automatic gearbox then the torque output is increased to 450 Nm.
The top-end variant of the diesel engine would also come with an all-wheel-drive system. It would not be a proper 4×4 system like we have seen on the Thar. However, it would be beneficial if you plan to do a lot of trips where you would have to face muddy or icy conditions. The XUV 700 is the only SUV in the segment that comes with an all-wheel-drive system.
Competitors
The XUV 700’s main rivals are Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari. However, because of the pricing, it will also compete against the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and MG Hector.
