Mahindra XUV700 vs Scorpio-N: Who should buy what?

After bringing the extremely popular all-new XUV700 last year, Mahindra has recreated a similar hype with the all-new Scorpio-N. But with the arrival of the all-new Scorpio-N in the Indian market, there are many buyers who are confused between the two vehicles. While there is a massive waiting period on both SUVs, if you agree to wait and are still confused, here are a few points that will help you choose the better-suited among these SUVs.

Want a rugged SUV

If you want a rugged SUV, the Scorpio-N is the choice you should make. The SUV does not have as many electronics as the XUV700. Scorpio is made for customers who like to go off the tarmac often and that is why is it built in a more rugged way compared to the XUV700.

The Scorpio-N is based on the ladder-frame chassis, which automatically makes it a champion in the off-roading sections. The SUV also offers a much more capable AWD system compared to the XUV700, which is only good for light off-roading. With the 4XPLOR system, the Scorpio-N gets a low-ratio transfer case. There are four off-roading modes – Normal, Grass/Gravel/ Snow, Mud/Rut, and Sand. The Scorpio-N also gets MLD and BLD differentials and the suspension is tuned for better off-roading performance.

A tech-savvy SUV

The XUV700 is full of high-end features. There are dual screens on the dashboard, and features like Level-2 Autonomous Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The cabin of the XUV700 also feels much more futuristic and modern compared to the Scorpio-N. The XUV700 gets dual 10.25-inch infotainment while the Scorpio-N offers a 7.0-inch infotainment system. The XUV700 gets a fully-digital instrument cluster while the Scorpio-N gets a hybrid analogue and digital instrument cluster.

The XUV700 gets a longer feature list than the Scorpio-N. These extra features include a panoramic sunroof, memory seats for the driver, an electronic parking brake, a 360-degree camera and ADAS.

Want a highway car

Mahindra XUV700 is based on a monocoque chassis while the Scorpio-N is based on the ladder frame. Monocoque chassis is much better when it comes to highway cruising and high-speed handling. It is also lighter than the Scorpio-N. So if you are going to spend most of your time on the highways, the XUV700 is a much better choice.

Want a performance SUV

Since the XUV700 is based on the monocoque, it is lighter in weight. Even though both the vehicles get the similar engine and transmission options, the XUV700 can sure accelerate and attain higher speeds much better than the Scorpio-N. While there will not be a massive difference, the XUV700 feels much better to drive and handle on the highways.

Want road presence

If you want an outright road presence, the Mahindra Scorpio-N wins here. The XUV700 is not a small SUV by any means but the all-new Scorpio-N is about 27mm wider and 102mm taller than the XUV700. The XUV700 is slightly longer than the Scorpio-N but it is the width and the height of the Scorpio-N that makes it stand out in the crowd.
