Mahindra XUV700 is in huge demand in our Indian market. We earlier reported that the waiting period exceeded 1 year. Now, the waiting period has exceeded more than 1.5 years. Currently, Mahindra has a huge backlog of more than 1.6 lakh cars. Depending on the variant, engine and gearbox, the waiting period can decrease or can stretch upto 1.5 years.
XUV700 is offered in two trims. There is MX and AX. The AX trim is further divided into AX3, AX5, AX7 and AX7L. The starting price of the XUV700 is Rs. 12.49 lakhs ex-showroom and goes upto Rs. 22.99 lakhs ex-showroom.
The waiting period of the MX trim is 6 to 7 months for the petrol variant, whereas the diesel engine’s waiting period is 9 to 10 months. The MX trim has the shortest waiting period because it is equipped with the lowest equipment level.

The AX3 with petrol engine has a waiting period is 7 to 8 months, whereas for diesel the waiting period is 11 to 12 months. The AX5 Petrol has a waiting period of 12 to 13 months and the diesel engine’s waiting period is slightly lower at 11 to 12 months.
Then there is the AX7 variant, for which the customer would have to wait for 14 to 15 months. The waiting period is the same for the petrol as well as the diesel engine. The longest waiting period is of the AX7 L variant. The petrol engine and the diesel engine has a waiting period of 18 to 19 months! This is because the top-spec variant uses most semiconductors. According to reports, the AX7 L variants use more than 170 semiconductor chips.
Why such a long waiting period?
The waiting period is so long because of the semiconductor shortage that the world is facing. The waiting period specified above is not limited to the new bookings, this is also applied to previous bookings that were done on 7th October and 8th October.
Mahindra aims to deliver 14,000 XUV700s by 14th January 2022. The manufacturer currently has more than 75,000 bookings of XUV700. But because of the long waiting period, many people are cancelling their bookings and are opting for rivals. Mahindra already has lost 32,000 units of production because of the semiconductor shortage.
A new variant could be introduced
According to the rumours, Mahindra is working on a new variant called AX7 Smart or AX7 S. This new variant will miss out on some features and Mahindra would be able to reduce the waiting period. As of now, dealers have confirmed the launch of the new variant but Mahindra has announced anything officially. Even a document was leaked that showcased what all features will the AX7 S variant offer.
