Because of long waiting periods, the forum member cancelled his booking. He is not the only one who has cancelled his booking of the XUV700. There are other people too who are cancelling their bookings because of long waiting periods.

The biggest reason behind the long waiting periods is the shortage of semiconductors that automobile manufacturers are facing. Because of this, Mahindra has removed some features to reduce chip usage. They are also revamping the variant line-up to tackle the chip shortage.

The wireless charger is already removed from XUV700. Mahindra will also be launching a new AX7S or AX7 Smart variant. It will not be offered with the Advanced Driver Aids System or ADAS. The new variant will be offered in all four configurations. So, there will be a petrol-manual, petrol-automatic, diesel-manual and diesel-automatic.

ADAS requires a lot of chips. So, the chips count will reduce significantly in the AX7 Smart variant which means the waiting period would decrease. Moreover, Mahindra has also ramped up the production of the XUV700.

The homegrown manufacturer has not yet revealed information about the new variant. However, the rumours are quite strong and paperwork that the dealership will be using is also leaked online. The AX7 Smart will not offer an Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Knee Airbag, Electronic Parking Brake, Electronic Door Handles, Wireless Charger, Passive Entry, Driver Drowsiness Detection and Telescopic Steering. As you would notice most of these features require a semiconductor. The new variant is expected to be priced at Rs. 20,000 lower than the existing AX7 Luxury variant. We would still need to wait for Mahindra to confirm the information and the new variant.

Mahindra has already gathered more than 75,000 bookings for the XUV700 which is a huge number considering the SUV has launched only a month ago. Having said that, Mahindra would have to solve the long waiting period issue because when compared the waiting period of competitors like Tata Safari is significantly lower and potential buyers are cancelling their bookings of the XUV700 and opting for other SUVs. XUV700 also compete against the Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus.
