According to the new Mahindra Xylo brochure, the Xylo E8 now gets dual SRS airbags as an option. It is said that the Mahindra Scorpio, the SUV from the Mahindra stable, will get them soon. Update: We now hear that the Mahindra Scorpio VLX already has airbags. Great news.

There is no official information on any extra price for the airbags, but as it is an option, it is bound to be added on.
Airbags are always a welcome addition. Here at DWS AutoIndia, we have always been critical of Indian automobile manufacturers who do not think it should be a standard feature. The benefits of airbags have been very well-established indeed for a few decades now, and forget it being standard fitment, many Indian carmakers do not even offer airbags as an option. Tata is just about getting around to offering airbags, and Mahindra’s move to offer airbags as an option in the Xylo E8 is a welcome step indeed.
The company has just updated their website with the new information.
Other safety features which Mahindra claims for the Xyo include a body designed to disperse crash energy, and anti-lock braking system (ABS).
Remember that airbags work best when you are already restrained by the seatbelts – so do wear them, and tell your passengers to wear them too. Seatbelts could have saved Princess Diana in her accident, and she was in the rear seat. Traffic rules in India do not insist on mandatory wearing of seatbelts for the rear passengers, but it is always a good idea indeed.
