Mahindra has three big launches lined up in the next 6 months, and the automaker expects these new launches to bring in about 8,000 units in terms of overall sales. Here is a quick walk-through on Mahindra’s next three launches along with timelines.
Marazzo MPV
Launching on the 3rd of September, 2018, the Marazzo is Mahindra’s first monocoque MPV, and has been developed as a global model by the automaker’s North American research team. The MPV will be sandwiched between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta in terms of price and positioning. A sub Rs. 10 lakh price tag is likely and the Marazzo will be sold in four variants – M2, M4, M6 and M8.
There will be a single diesel engine on offer initially – a newly developed 1.5 litre turbocharged unit with about 125 Bhp-300 Nm outputs. A 6 speed manual gearbox will pair with this engine, and drive the front wheels of the MPV. Other important details about the Marazzo include the fact that it will be sold in 7 and 8 seater options, and that it will be a feature-rich vehicle.
XUV700 Luxury SUV
Mahindra will launch a new luxury SUV by the end of this year, and it’s expected to be known as the XUV700. The new SUV will essentially be a rebadged version of the Ssangyong Rexton G4. Apart from the rebadging and a few localized bits, the Rexton G4 sold in South Korea will be similar to the one offered here. The luxury SUV is expected to undercut the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in terms of pricing, to drive home the value quotient.
Large and imposing, the Mahindra XUV700 will be powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine good for 189 Bhp- 420 Nm outputs. The SUV is likely to be offered with a single, 7 speed automatic gearbox option. Both rear wheel drive and four wheel drive variants could be offered. The XUV700 will be Mahindra’s flagship offering, and is expected to pack in a wide array of features, and a high level of fit and finish.
S201 Compact SUV
So far, Mahindra has operated with ladder frame SUVs such as the TUV300 and the Nuvosport in the sub-4 meter segment, with limited success. Aiming to make a bigger splash in the segment dominated by the Maruti Brezza, Mahindra has lined up a shortened version of the Ssangyong Tivolo compact SUV. Codenamed the S201, the new SUV will be launched in India early next year.
The S201 is expected to pack in 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5 litre turbocharged diesel engines. Both engines are said to be class leaders in terms of outputs. The SUV is expected to be offered with manual and AMT options, with a five seat layout as standard. A longer bodied, 7 seat version is expected to follow a year later. Prices of the S201 will start from under Rs. 7 lakhs.
