Mahindra’s Bugatti Veyron-beating hyper car is here: Pininfarina Battista

Renowned automobile design brand – Pininfarina has finally lifted the covers off its first-ever electric hypercar. It is the first time that the Italian brand has ever launched a vehicle. It should be noted that Automobili Pininfarina is owned by the Mahindra Group. Several teaser images of the vehicle have been released in the past, which created an extreme curiosity among the car lovers.

The vehicle has been designed by the legendary Pininfarina SpA and Automobili Pininfarina. The electric hypercar gets a lot of swoops and curves on its body and looks extremely good. The pictures show a large bonnet scoop, a big carbon-fibre splitter at the front and large active rear diffuser. The active diffuser works to provide downforce. The Battista has been made to take on hypercars like Bugatti Veyron and Chiron and gets a lot of high-end equipment.

The Battista uses 120 kWh lithium-ion battery. It is the same battery that also powers the Rimac’s C-Two hypercar. The Battista also gets inputs from the Mahindra Racing Formula E team, which excels in electric car racing at the global level.  The Pininfarina Battista gets an all-wheel-drive system. There are four individual electric motors placed for the different wheels. The motors get highly efficient torque vectoring system that produces a maximum of 1,900 Bhp and 2,300 Nm! That is insane power and torque figure and because it is electric powertrain, it has torque available right from the start. The Battista can sling forward from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2 seconds! It can go to 300 km/h in less than 12 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 350 km/h. Pininfarina will also offer a performance package that will provide an extended range of 450 km.

Automobili Pininfarina’s CEO, Michael Perschke,

“We strongly believe that currently no other new energy venture nor existing luxury car brand has our combination of skills and heritage. There is no guarantee that a Pininfarina-designed all-electric 1,900hp hyper GT hand-made in Italy in very low volumes will be a success. But it looks good from here and we believe that all the ingredients are in place to ensure we have every opportunity of writing automotive history in 2020 with the launch of the Battista and future cars to come,”

The Pininfarina Battista will offer ‘natural sound’ and not any recorded artificial sound. The sound of the vehicle is engineered too. The bodywork of the Battista gets tuned to provide a unique sound experience in the vehicle. Interestingly, the driver will be able to choose a bespoke sound that will be generated through the combination of wind noise, airflow, HVAC system, electric motors, and the carbon monocoque resonance.

The Battista is still not in production stage and will go on sale in 2020. There will be only a few limited units of the electric hypercar that will go on sale in the global markets and the price is expected to be around $2 million or around 14.2 crore. Pininfarina is planning to build around 150 units of the Battista and the units will be allocated between the Europe, US and Middle East/Asia markets.
