Mahindra’s XUV 500 bags 6,000 bookings in two days

Mahindra only recently launched its global SUV, the XUV500, at a lucrative starting price of Rs. 10.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base W6 variant. Now CarToq has unofficially gotten a confirmation that its bookings have already skyrocketed to 6,000 units in just two days. Mahindra’s decision to price the XUV aggressively has paid off and people are storming dealerships to book their vehicles.

This is a phenomenal response considering the way other cars launched recently were received by the market. The Toyota Etios Liva, which was launched on June 27 had managed only 4,000 bookings after four weeks of its launch.

The Toyota Etios sedan had notched up bookings of 12,000 within 7 days of launch while the Hyundai Fluidic Verna had managed actual sales of over 4,000 units within the first month of its launch.

However 6,000 units is a very impressive number for the XUV 500 as it is priced at over Rs. 10 lakh for the base variant. Moreover, these bookings are only from five cities as Mahindra is yet to launch the XUV 500 on a national level across the country.

This means that the number of bookings will likely go up once the vehicle is launched across India next month. If these booking numbers translate into actual sales figures Mahindra will have a winner at hand.

Waiting period

Mahindra has a production capacity of 2,000 units per month. As they already have 6,000 bookings we can easily assume that as of now, the maximum waiting period for the XUV 500, will be three months.

Mahindra does however have additional production capacity and will likely ramp up production if the demand rises further.

The XUV 500 promises to create a stir in India’s entry level premium SUV segment and has the potential to eat into the market of vehicles way above its price point. Read what sets the XUV 500 apart from the competition here.

What makes the XUV 500 so desirable?

With features that match up to SUVs segments above it, the XUV is a value for money package. It is big on space and can accommodate seven people in a 2+3+2 seating arrangement.  So, what makes the XUV such a good buy?

Well for starters the XUV 500 is loaded with safety features like, six airbags, all-round disc brakes with ABS, traction control and electronic stability program. More over it has premium safety features like hill-descent control that only SUV’s like the Skoda Yeti which is roughly Rs. 3.5 lakh dearer offer.

Attractive features: But safety and space alone are not the XUV 500’s strong points, it in fact offers a wide array of features. The XUV gives you a tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, a touch-screen integrated music system, steering mounted audio controls, Bluetooth connectivity, power-folding rear-view mirrors, GPS navigation, a cooled glove box, puddle lamps and more. Attractive design: Not only does the XUV 500 leave a mark in terms of features but it also has quite to flaunt in the looks department. The XUV gets what Mahindra claims is a Cheetah-inspired design. It has an imposing, yet suave appearance, which gives it an aggressive stance and ample road presence.

It is obvious that people have taken an instant liking to the XUV 500 and from what we hear, several people have booked the vehicle without even taking a test drive. The XUV poses serious threat not only to SUVs like the Tata Aria and Safari but also to the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Yeti.
