Maruti Suzuki has just upgraded India’s best selling car – the Alto. The upgraded Maruti Alto 800 has just been launched at a price of Rs. 2.93 lakhs, ex-showroom India, for the STD variant. This price represents an increase of about Rs. 30,000 over the outgoing model’s price. However, Maruti has given the Alto 800 a slew of new features to justify the price increase. Here’s a TVC of the new car.
The car also gets a minor stylistic makeover that makes it look a lot fresher than before. Also, the Maruti Alto 800’s 796cc petrol engine is now Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms compliant. The car’s new fuel efficiency is rated at 22.05 Kmpl, which is marked decrease from the outgoing model’s 24.7 Kmpl mileage figure.
The 796cc engine’s power and torque figures remain unchanged though, at 47 Bhp and 69 Nm. A five speed manual gearbox is standard, and there’s no automatic gearbox offered, even as an option. Those seeking an automatic gearbox on the Alto range will have to opt for the bigger engined Alto K10, which offers a 5 speed AMT as an option.
Delving into the changes on the 2019 Maruti Alto 800, the car receives a new front grille, sharper headlamps, a re- profiled bumper and side fender on the outside. On the inside, there’s a dashboard borrowed from the Alto K10, a new infotainment system called Smart Play Dock that offers Bluetooth music and calling features. It also allows the smartphone to be docked, and double up as a navigation unit.
As for safety features, ABS, Reverse Parking Sensors, Driver Airbag, Speed Alert System and Seat Belt Reminder for both driver and co-driver are standard across the range, and the higher variants give the buyer a passenger airbag as a key addition. Maruti also informs us that the 2019 Alto 800 meets the upcoming crash test norms under the BNVSAP regime, which also includes pedestrian safety.
The higher variants of the Alto – LXi and VXi – are priced at Rs. 3.5 lakhs and Rs. 3.72 lakhs respectively. The car is Maruti’s most affordable offering, and is available in 5 colours: Uptown Red| Superior White | Silky Silver | Granite Grey | Mojito Green | Cerulian Blue.
