Maruti Suzuki has just released a new TVC for its premium hatchback – the Baleno. The new TVC focuses on the Baleno Automatic variant, which is equipped with a CVT automatic gearbox. CVT automatic gearboxes are known for their smoothness and jerk-free operation, earning them high praise for refinement. The Baleno is India’s best selling premium hatchback. Maruti Suzuki just sold over 20,000 units last month. In fact, no other premium hatchback in India has ever sold 20,000 units a month, let alone 15,000 units/month. The presence of the CVT automatic gearbox on the Baleno makes the premium hatchback a highly refined car in its segment, and an even more attractive proposition.
The Baleno is also available with manual gearboxes. The car is sold with three engine options. The entry-level models get a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.3-litre turbocharged diesel engines. The 1.2-litre petrol is a K-Series, 4-cylinder unit with 82 Bhp-113 Nm on tap. This engine gets a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, and a CVT automatic gearbox as an option. The diesel engine is a 1.3-litre turbocharged unit with 74 Bhp-190 Nm on tap. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard with this engine. Maruti also offers a high performance, 1 litre-3 cylinder BoosterJet turbocharged petrol engine on the Baleno, with 101 Bhp-150 Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard on this engine.
Prices of the Baleno start from Rs. 5.47 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The car is sold through Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA range of premium dealerships. The Baleno is based on the HEARTECT platform, which is a lightweight platform that uses high-tensile, lightweight steel to keep weight low. This means that the Baleno weighs well under 1,000 kilos, and is the lightest premium hatchback sold in India. This gives the car impressive fuel efficiency and performance. Maruti offers twin airbags and ABS as standard safety features on all variants of the Baleno premium hatchback.
