Maruti Baleno sells 2,00,000 units in 20 months

Maruti Suzuki reincarnated the Baleno moniker in October 2015 when they launched the first premium hatchback in India. The Baleno has gained immense popularity since then and has been averaging at about 10,000 units per month. The car is just 20 months old in the market and it has already sold 2 lakh units.

Maruti also exports the Baleno hatchback to more than 100 international markets like Japan, Austrailia, New Zealand, and several parts of Europe and Latin America. This is also the first instance when Maruti Suzuki has exported a car to the Japanese domestic market marking the “Make in India” initiative.

The Baleno took less than a year to cross the 1 lakh unit sales mark and in next six months, it had hit 1.5 lakh sales mark. The Baleno has remained in the top 10 best-selling soon after it was launch. The hatchback has mostly stayed in the top 10 selling bracket since November 2015 and May 2017. The Baleno has sold 1,53,743 units in petrol variants and 43,917 units in diesel variants.

The Baleno is the most successful car sold through Maruti’s premium Nexa channel. The car also gets a hot version known as the Baleno RS to attract more customers. The car also introduces Maruti’s new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Thanking customers on the occasion, Mr R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki said “ Baleno was developed keeping in mind the tastes and requirement of global customers. It has disrupted the premium hatchback segment by not only dominating it but also expanding it multi-fold. While setting new benchmarks in design and technology, Baleno has received an unimaginable response in India as well as several international markets. We are very humbled with the success of Baleno. We thank all our customers for their support and patience despite huge waiting for delivery on Baleno.”

Baleno comes with standard safety features like dual airbags and ABS with EBD across all the variants. The Baleno’s platform also forms the base of the new-generation Maruti DZire and will also underpin the next generation Suzuki Swift.
