Coming soon: Maruti Brezza CNG & Petrol Hybrid

Maruti Suzuki is India’s biggest car manufacturer and their Vitara Brezza is one of the highest sold utility vehicle in the country. for over three years it was the undisputed king of the sales chart till the arrival of the Hyundai Venue. Brezza has now moved to the second position. But things might change soon as the Maruti plans to launch the Vitara Brezza with a Petrol engine and even CNG variant can also be expected.

Coming soon: Maruti Brezza CNG & Petrol Hybrid

If Maruti Suzuki launches the Brezza with a CNG option, then it would be the only SUV in its segment to offer that. It could be an added advantage in terms of sales for Maruti Suzuki as CNG equipped vehicles are known for fuel efficiency. With BS6 emission norms kicking in early next year Maruti Suzuki will stop the production of smaller diesel cars and might concentrate more on Petrol and CNG powered engines.

The Petrol engine that will be used in Brezza is the same 1.5 liter-4 cylinder K-Series unit with 104 Bhp-138 Nm on tap. This engine is already offered on Maruti Suzuki cars such as the Ciaz and Ertiga, along with mild hybrid powertrains. The Brezza Petrol is also likely to get the mild hybrid option. On the Ciaz and Ertiga, this engine gets 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. The same gearbox options are likely to be carried over to the Brezza as well. There is a possibility that Maruti might replace the 1.3L engine with the new 1.5L diesel that is introduced in Ciaz and Ertiga recently.

Apart from changes in terms of engine Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is also expected to get a minor facelift as the competition in this segment is getting tougher day by day. Main competitor in front of Brezza is going to be the newly launched Venue which comes with a 1.0L turbo charged petrol, 1.2L petrol engine and a 1.4L diesel engine. the 1.0L engine is availble with a manual or a DCT transmission. while the other engine options only get manual transmission.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza on the other hand only gets a diesel engine as of now. The engine in question is  the tried and tested 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel unit (which will soon be discontinued when BS6 is implemented) with 89 Bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of peak  torque. There are two gearboxes on offer – a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed AMT. With all these changes on the outside and inside there is a slight possibility that prices may go up.
