5 upcoming Maruti Brezza rivals: Mahindra XUV300 to Hyundai Styx

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is the best selling vehicle in the segment. The sub-compact SUV came a bit later than some of its rivals but conquered the market soon after. However, many other manufacturers have also been eyeing the sub-compact SUV segment now and are preparing their own vehicles to dethrone the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. So, if you are thinking of getting yourself a sub compact SUV anytime soon, here are five upcoming cars that will challenge the Vitara Brezza.

Mahindra XUV300

Mahindra’s answer to the Vitara Brezza is a very compelling and premium looking car. Called the XUV300, the sub-compact SUV will be the first serious offering in the segment by the company. It will come with many class leading features like 7 airbags, all wheel disc brakes and multiple steering modes to name a few. The car will also be the most powerful diesel vehicle in its segment and will likely use the 1.5 litre engine from the Marazzo. The petrol is likely to be the newly developed 1.2 litre unit, mated to a manual gearbox.

Hyundai Styx

Expected Launch by: Early 2019

Hyundai has been long absent from this segment and hence is now making a foray into it with the Styx, Based on the Carlino concept which was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo, the Styx will rival the likes of Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza among others in the segment. The sub-compact SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum of 110 Bhp and a peak torque of 170 Nm. Since its a Hyundai, expect the cabin to be plush and feature rich too.

Kia Sub-Compact SUV

Hyundai owned Korean brand, Kia has been in news since a while now for its India debut. It is believed that the company will make its India foray with a sub-compact SUV that will take directly onto the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza among others. The company will develop the sub compact SUV as a India specific model, which will share its platform with the Hyundai Styx. Much details about the car are not yet known but expect the car to be quite feature rich and good looking, as the company is known for that. The Kia sub-compact SUV could be launched by the end of 2020, which means there is still some time before we get to see it in person.

Tata Nexon JTP

Expected Launch by: September 2019

Tata launched the JTP versions of the Tiago and Tigor sometime back and both the cars got good response by critics. The company is now planning to bring the JTP version of its popular Nexon sub-compact SUV. It will be the first car in its segment which is tuned for sporty response and rich driving experience. The Nexon JTP will get similar updates as seen on the other two JTP vehicles. The performance version of the Nexon is expected to get a stiffer suspension set-up for sharper handling, body kit and a more powerful petrol engine.

Datsun Go Cross

Expected Launch by: End 2019

Datsun is also planning to bring in a sub-compact SUV to India this year. Dubbed as the Go Cross, the car will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A platform and will be the most visually attractive offering by the company till date in India. It is expected that the Go Cross will be powered by an updated version of company’s 1.0-litre petrol engine. With the pricing done right, it could give the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza a good run for its money in the segment.
