Maruti brings Android Auto update for older systems

Earlier this year, Maruti introduced the Ignis, which was the first vehicle from the Maruti line up to come with a Smartplay system that was compatible with Apple Car play, Android Auto and Mirrorlink. While the older vehicles, like the Ciaz, the Baleno, the Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross too have a Smartplay system, they did not come with the option of Android Auto. They were only equipped with Apple Car play and navigation, something that the android phone owners didn’t like very much.

Maruti brings Android Auto update for older systems

Maruti now seems to have introduced a new software update, which enables all the older vehicles to get Android Auto connectivity linked to the older Smartplay system. This can be done via contacting the nearest Maruti service station, who will be able to guide you better on how long the process will take. Currently, the newly launched Dzire, the Baleno RS and the Igins are the only new vehicles that come equipped with both Apple Car play and Android Auto.

In addition to the Android Auto install, there is another update for the navigation maps that came with the Smartplay system, which will be for the 2017 version and will be valid till 2020. It is a 2.5 GB update, according to the report.

It is good to see the company introducing the update for the other models so soon. Maruti also has a few launches planned later in the year, which includes the new S-Cross and they will also be getting in the new Swift sometime next year. These vehicles are expected to come with complete infotainment package with Apple Carplay and Android Auto from day one.

Currently, Hyundai is the only other manufacturer that is offering Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Mirrorlink as standard on most of their line up, which includes the newly launched Grand i10, the Xcent, the i20, the Creta, the Tucson and the Elantra.
