Maruti cars & SUVs coming to the Indian Auto Expo 2018

India’s biggest motor show, the Auto Expo will take place in 2018. The bi-yearly event will see participation from a lot of manufacturers including Maruti, which is India’s biggest car brand. Here are the cars and SUVs that Maruti will showcase during the show.

Alto

The entry-level hatchback from Maruti has been around for a long time now. The stricter safety rules in India that will be in effect in next couple of years will see a vast change in the automotive industry. The popular hatchback Alto will make way for the new one in late 2018 and Maruti will showcase it in the Auto Expo.

Maruti has already started testing the JDM model of the Alto in India. It is expected to be powered by a 660cc engine that will be offered with an optional AMT. The engine produces a maximum of 51 Bhp – 63 Nm.

WagonR

Maruti cars & SUVs coming to the Indian Auto Expo 2018

Suzuki launched the updated, all-new WagonR in the Japanese market earlier this year. The new car looks completely different from the current one but maintains the tall-boy stance. The new WagonR is expected to reach India somewhere in the late 2018, but Maruti is expected to showcase the new model at the Auto Expo.

Swift

The all-new Swift has already reached India, and it will be showcased at the Auto Expo. It is one of the most awaited launches of 2018. The new Swift is an all-new model that is based on the new HEARTECT platform that also underpins the new Baleno and DZire.

The car gets features like LED projector lamps and tail lamps. The India specific model is expected to retain the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine options but it will be lighter than before, which will make it quicker and fuel efficient than the current model.

Swift Sport

Maruti will also offer the more powerful Swift Sport in India after the launch of Swift. The hot hatch will be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 138 Bhp – 230 Nm. The Swift Sport will also get a body kit featuring new splitter, side skirts, different alloy wheels and contrasting bumpers that will add a racy look to it.

Vitara

The Vitara will soon be launched in the Indian market. The 5 seat SUV is expected to return to the Indian market with a diesel engine sourced from Fiat. It will be Maruti flagship in India and could be offered with an AWD option too. The Vitara is expected to be launched by mid-2018 in the Indian market.

Ciaz facelift

Maruti is testing the new Ciaz with a minor facelift in India and the car is expected to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. The new Ciaz has been already caught testing in India with the new bumpers. Under the hood, the new Ciaz is expected to get the new 1.5-litre petrol engine, and a 1.5-litre diesel that is currently being developed by Maruti Suzuki.

Jimny

The Jimny was expected to be showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show, but the vehicle never came out of the covers. By February, when the Auto Expo is scheduled to happen, we believe that the Jimny will be ready to be showcased in India. Maruti will bring the all-new Jimny to India to replace ageing Gypsy.

The new Jimny will be produced in India will be exported to around the world from India. The Jimny is also based on the same HEARTECT platform that underpins the Dzire and the Baleno. According to reports, the Jimny will be powered by the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Baleno RS. We can also expect a diesel engine.

YHB (Ertiga based MPV)

Maruti Suzuki is also working on a new vehicle based on the Ertiga. Codenamed as YHB, the new vehicle will be a rugged version of the Ertiga in India. The vehicle will take on the likes of Honda BR-V that looks rugged and offers 7-seats. It is possible that Maruti will show the vehicle during the Auto Expo next year.

The new vehicle will share the same underpinnings as the next generation Ertiga, but the outer look will be different. The engine options are expected to remain same as the Ertiga.
