Toyota is working on its version of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. It will be called the Toyota Belta. Now, there are new spy pictures of the sedan that have been leaked online. These are left-hand drive vehicles that will be exported from India. So, we can expect the right-hand-drive models to get launched around the festive season this year.
Toyota is already selling the rebadged Vitara Brezza known as Urban Cruiser and rebadged Baleno known as Glanza in the international market as well as in our market. Now, they will be also selling the Belta in the foreign market. Toyota used to have a sedan named Belta in the international market before even Ciaz was launched. So, using the same nameplate will save them money as they would not have to file a trademark for a new name.
From the pictures, we can see that there are no changes made to the Ciaz. It is a straight-up rebadged version of the Ciaz. So, apart from the Toyota and Belta badges, there are no updates. We can see Belta in a white, red, blue and brown shade.

It seems like there are no changes even to the interior of the sedan and it retains the same LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, LED tail lamps, front and rear bumpers and even the same grille. Even the alloy wheels are the same.
Toyota will offer the Belta with only a single petrol engine. This is the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit that Maruti Suzuki uses. It produces 103 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of 138 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Toyota Yaris discontinued
Last month, the Japanese manufacturer discontinued their mid-size sedan, Yaris. It never really managed to capture the Indian market since its launch. It was quite affordable, came with a decent feature list that included seven airbags and was offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. However, Yaris never managed to breach the 1,000 units per month barrier. Every month the sales figure stayed in triple-digit numbers. So, Toyota has decided to replace it with the Belta because the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser are doing quite well in the Indian market. The manufacturer has said that they will continue to support Yaris with spare parts and service.
More rebadged Maruti Suzuki vehicles coming
When Ciaz’s grille with Toyota badge was first leaked, a graphical image of Ertiga’s grille with Toyota’s badge was also leaked alongside. So, we can expect that Toyota will also be launching their version of the Ertiga MPV. The Ertiga is the best selling MPV in the Indian market.
We do not expect Toyota to make many changes to the Ertiga. There can be a slightly different grille and a different upholstery colour scheme like they did with the Urban Cruiser. The engine and the gearbox will be the same. So, it will come with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. As of now, we do not know whether Toyota will offer its version of Ertiga with factory-fitted CNG or not.
