Modifications don’t need to be large in order to make a car look really good. Just simple, strategic modifications will do, like the ones on this mean looking Maruti Ciaz. The family sedan has been transformed into a mean machine with just two key modifications – a matte grey body wrap and golden coloured alloy wheels. These modifications have transformed the Ciaz into something very striking looking, and gone are the typical looks of a family sedan.
The good thing about these modifications is that they can be done with little problems from the authorities. The wrap can be endorsed in the registration certificate (RC) as a colour change while the alloy wheels won’t really get a traffic cop or RTO official to stop the car, and enquire about the modifications. While this Ciaz looks menacing, and needs more than just the run of the mill engines that it’s offered with.
Currently, Maruti offers the Ciaz with two engines – a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated petrol with 104 Bhp-138 Nm, and a 1.3 liter turbocharged diesel with 89 Bhp-200 Nm. Both engines get 5 speed manual gearboxes as standard while a 4 speed torque converter automatic gearbox is offered as an option on the petrol powered model.
The modified Ciaz is the pre-facelift model, which means that it will either use a 1.4 liter K-Series petrol motor with 94 Bhp-130 Nm, or the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet diesel motor with 89 Bhp-200 Nm. Both engines, while being ample for city use, aren’t really the ones that burnish the Ciaz’s reputation for performance.
In the next few weeks, the Ciaz is all set to get more powerful. Maruti will soon offer a larger, more powerful turbo diesel engine on the car. Codenamed the DDiS 225, the new motor will displace 1.5 liters and has been developed in- house. With 94 Bhp of peak power and 225 Nm of peak torque, it’s significantly more powerful than the 1.3 liter diesel. The new engine will also get a new 6 speed manual gearbox. These changes should make the Ciaz more fun to drive.
The Ciaz is India’s best selling C-Segment sedans, and the reasons why people opt for this car are 1. It’s value-for money price tag. 2. Maruti badge which guarantees reliabilty and low maintenance costs. 3. High fuel efficiency and 4. Spacious interiors. The alternatives to the Maruti Ciaz include the Honda City, the Toyota Yaris and the Hyundai Verna. All three cars are pricier than the Ciaz, and while the City offers comparable space on the inside, it’s a lot more costlier. The Verna, which while being feature-rich and powerful, is not as spacious, and is also costlier. The Yaris is a slow seller, and not really a big competitor. The Ciaz received a facelift late last year, and the facelifted model is doing quite well in terms of sales.
