Maruti could add more variants to Ertiga CNG: Details

Maruti Suzuki is currently leading the market when it comes to CNG powered vehicles. One of their best selling CNG vehicles is the Ertiga CNG. Till now, the Ertiga CNG was offered in three variants, there was VXi, ZXi and Tour M. However, this could soon change. According to Rushlane, Maruti Suzuki could add three more variants that will be called VXi(O), ZXi(O) and Tour M(O).

The new optional variants would offer more equipment than the regular variants. These features could be side airbags for the front occupants and a rear parking camera. It is still not clear what features would Maruti Suzuki will add to the new variants.

The CNG variants of the Ertiga are in huge demand probably because the prices of petrol are quite high in many states and people are looking for alternative sources of fuel. The Ertiga CNG has a waiting period of a massive 40 weeks. One of the reasons behind the long waiting periods is the shortage of semiconductors that have currently hit every manufacturer.

Ertiga prices and variants

The Ertiga starts at Rs. 8.35 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 12.79 lakhs. The CNG is offered on the VXi variant which costs Rs. 10.44 lakhs and the ZXi variant which costs Rs. 11.54 lakhs. All the prices are ex-showroom. The Ertiga comes in four different variants. There is LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+.

Maruti Suzuki updated the engine and the gearbox of the Ertiga and XL6 when they launched the facelifts of both the MPVs. It is the new 1.5-litre K12C engine. It is a four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine that produces 103 PS of max power and 137 Nm of peak torque. It also gets a stronger mild-hybrid system. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission which has replaced the 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. You also get paddle shifters behind the steering wheel to take manual control of the gearbox. While running on CNG, the engine produces 88 PS of max power and 121.5 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to only a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Fuel efficiency

The manufacturer claims a fuel efficiency of 20.51 kmpl for the petrol manual and 20.3 kmpl for the petrol automatic. For CNG, the claimed fuel efficiency figure is 26.11 km/kg.

Features

With the facelift, Maruti Suzuki added some new features to the Ertiga. It now comes with cruise control, Driver side auto-window up with anti-pinch, follow-me-home headlamps, automatic headlamps and auto-close function for the ORVMs. The speedometer has also been updated for the S-CNG models.

On the higher variants, you also get the Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold Assist and four airbags. As standard, Ertiga comes with ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Rear parking sensors, dual airbags, high-speed alert, seat belt reminders and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

There is also a new 7-inch SmartPlay Pro system that runs on the new user interface that we have seen on the Baleno. It also comes with voice commands that can be triggered by saying “Hi Suzuki”. Moreover, the Ertiga comes with connected car features.
