Maruti Ertiga and Kia Carens interior space and comfort comparison [Video]

7-seater SUVs and MPVs are slowly gaining buyers attention in Indian market and manufacturer like Maruti have been selling Ertiga which is a budget MPV in the market for a very long time. It is considered a value for money option and is a popular MPV among buyers from both commercial and private segment. One of the recent entrant into this MUV segment is Kia Carens. It is based on Kia Seltos and is being offered at a very competitive price. Here we have a video where the interior space and comfort of both Kia Carens and Maruti Ertiga is compared.

The video has been uploaded by Power On Wheel on their YouTube channel. The video starts with vlogger talking about the engine options available with both the vehicles. Maruti Ertiga is available with a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and comes with manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission option. Kia Carens on the other hand comes with three different options. There is a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated engine which comes with manual and IVT gearbox. The engine on offer is the 1.5 litre turbo diesel which comes with manual and automatic transmission. The third engine option is the 1.4 litre turbo petrol which comes with a 7-speed DCT and manual gearbox.

Vlogger sits in both the SUV to show how spacious and comfortable the cars feel. Vlogger starts with Kia Carens. The MUV offers ample amount of legroom, support to the back and thigh. He mentions that Carens offers a commanding driving position. He mentions that there are several features available in Carens that are missing in Ertiga but, as this is not a comparison for the features, he does not stress more on it. The vlogger then sits in Maruti Ertiga and he mentions that it offers decent amount of space and the higher variants offer armrest, touchscreen infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel and other features too. Ertiga has more of a car like seating position which is comfortable.

Then the vlogger moves to the second row of Carens. Once again, he talks about the amount of space that is available inside the cabin. The second row seats offer a comfortable seating position as they sit slightly higher than driver which gives a clear view of the things outside. There is roof mounted AC vent and the centre seat can be folded easily to convert it into an armrest with two cup holders. Vlogger was very satisfied with the space offered in the second row of Carens. Vlogger then sits in Ertiga to reveal the space. In comparison to Carens, the legroom and headroom was slightly less but, it was nothing uncomfortable. Both Ertiga and Carens had roof mounted AC vents.

After this, the vlogger enters the third row. He had to slid one of the seats forward in Ertiga to access the third row. Once he was in third row seat, he mentions that Ertiga does not offer a comfortable seat for an adult. The headrest was not allowing him to lean back and there was not enough legroom or headroom as well. Vlogger then sits inside Carens which comes with one touch electric tumble down seats to access third row. He immediately mentions that Carens offers better space in third row. It is not the best but when compared with Ertiga, Carens felt better. Carens also offered AC vents for third row seats along with cabin lights. Both cars offer less amount of boot space with all three row seats up. Vlogger mentions that Ertiga and Carens both are good in terms of space and comfort and it all comes down to the budget and preference.
